Initial Creation Date: Apr. 16, 2020
Published: Apr. 16, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I'll bite... I'm not sure how far I'll go, but I'll do flat cap+no CBO, but assume there may be some ability to adjust contracts so I may go slightly over for some teams (not ANA obv tho)

I'd give Zegras 9 games, then, unless he absolutely kills it, say hey, I know you can kill the AHL, go do that, you'll get opportunities if there are any injuries on the big club.

Trades
1.
ANA
  1. Miller, Colin
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (BUF)
Additional Details:
2017 Manson>VGK Miller>current Manson>>>current Miller, but I'd expect a large rebound from him, not quite back to his Vegas form but definitely a capable top 4 guy on a relatively cheap deal for a guy who I don't think will ever have more value than RN
BUF
  1. Henrique, Adam
Additional Details:
The pick is conditional, is a 2022 2nd if Miller doesn't resign or Henrique remains above 1/2 PPG, or scales down a round every .10 PPG if Miller doesn't resign
2.
ANA
  1. Stepan, Derek
  2. 2020 2nd round pick (ARI)
Additional Details:
Personally, I'm really low on Guhle/Larson, I'd rather have Mahura, and I don't think Lindholm or Fowler are going anywhere, they aren't going to gain value by sitting... ARZ gains cap space and a possible upgrade over Lyu, we gain a stopgap 2/3C with Steel who won't be in the way long term of guys like Zegras Steel, Lundestrom or BOG
3.
ANA
  1. 2020 4th round pick (NYI)
  2. 2022 2nd round pick (NYI)
NYI
  1. Larsson, Jacob
Additional Details:
Isles get their Greene replacement, we get futures for a guy I wouldn't have in my long term plans
4.
ANA
  1. Hutton, Carter
Additional Details:
I forgot to add him to the original BUF trade, but I think they'll gladly move him for next to nothing, and we need a 1 year option at backup, can maybe be resigned for another year if dostal still isn't ready

What's funny is Miller wasn't even bad in vegas but they treated him like he was the devil. Also when you say Manson, what is your value of Manson overall? IA what would you trade him for? (presuming youre a ducks fan)

I heard a rumour at the deadline that they were interested in him, it may have been speculation, idk, but that's where I've been sending him and seeing a lot of people send him if they do decide to trade him... Team on that one doesn't particularly matter though

So you're telling me Dermott, Johnsson, Kivihalme, Liljegren and a first is an overpayment. That also means something along the lines of a Johnsson, Kivihalme and Dermott has the value to get the job done, am I correct?

@AFOX10900 Curious what the general standing is from Ducks fans right now regarding Sam Steel. Is he considered open for trade and if so, what would you be looking for?

Yes to the first part, and yes/no to the second part, purely value wise that's probably good, but there's no RHD there

He hasn't been that great in his first full year, but he's shown plenty of flashes, I wouldn't trade him, but if I did I'd have to really hear a great offer, including (shockingly) a really good RD spec (ie Lilja+)

Well I mean, leafs can't really afford to give up a RHD. They actually have none lol. Dermott does tend to play right side and could be a good chip for a rebuild

Breakdown my thoughts trade by trade

Rico-Miller - I wouldn't go anywhere near that, if thats the best we can get for Henrique I'd rather keep him, with the uncertainty of Getz past his current deal I feel Rico is the most valuable veteran presence we have, not to mention he would have more than likely had 30 goals and is our best point producer which even tho we are rebuilding is important to take pressure off the young guys

Guhle-Stephan - Dont , love it dont hate it make the pick a first and im on board if not no thank you Not a fan of stephan at all and I dont like taking another cap dump in this scenario

Larsson - I do that if Djoos stays, though I would rather move him for a similar RHD

Hutton - Stolarz was great in the AHL, I would like to see him in the back up role personally

I'm aware, but we already have Fowler who's been doing that (on and off)... It'd be kind of weird to have an RD group made of more lefties than righties...

Funny enough, in the report that said Manson could be moved, Fowler was the other guy. If he's going off, imagine the value you're getting out of that.

And it's not like guys like Fowler or Manson will really be relevant by the time the ducks are ready to compete again. Getzlafs contract is up soon too. You may see them thinking of moving out Gibson for a big return, and possibly Lindholm (who if you look at his stats, just keeps regressing for some reason)

This has nothing to do with why I asked in the first place, but would you consider something built around this base: Kerfoot + Liljegren for Steel + Manson?

Ik you don't like Miller... I personally think you're getting Colin confused with Kevin 😁 I think he'd be a perfectly fine top 4 RD for us for a few years while we get a long term solution sorted out, and I don't see Rico A. Repeating this season, or B. Beating out Zegras or Steel for a top 2 C spot as soon as the year after this, that leaves him Getz Lundestrom, and possibly BOG contending for 1 3C spot... One is a franchise icon, two are young kids with potential and one is a roughly 30 year old making 5.825 mil... Imo to that decision is easy, and the leadership he brings likely won't be all that valuable, I think Getz signs a 1-2 year extension, so that only leaves 1-2 years of us having Henrique and no Getz...

Now that you mention it, I probably should have gotten a bit more back, I don't see ARZ moving another first anytime soon (if they resign Hall their 2021 first is gone, if they don't, I highly doubt they'd want to move it) plus it is a relatively early second, in my mind it went 2nd>Guhle>3rd, but now that I think about it some more, it probably takes a bit more than that to move Stepan, though I wouldn't be too upset by this trade, I see Guhle as a very expendable piece

One of Djoos or Larsson needs to go, neither are in the long term plans, imo Larsson has more value, that's why I moved him instead

Maybe, but either way I see Hutton as basically 0 value, and I'd much prefer a guy who can start close to 30 games, we really shouldn't run Gibby into the ground in a year that will 99.9% be largely meaningless

I'd be willing to do Lilja+small piece for Manson, but it'd take a somewhat significant piece on top of Kerfoot to get Steel, though I do like Kerfoot... We really don't need him all that much, unless we also move Henrique in this scenario, then I could see is having a use for him

@MMXD I personally think Lindholm can get moved at the deadline of his contract year. As for Gibson he aint moving. He will play out his contract in Anaheim. That said defensemen can age like wine and Fowler can become very valuable imo.

Leddy turns 30 at the end of next season, Toews turns 27 in the middle and Pelech turns 26 in August. After that, you have no one in the pipeline and Larsson is at the perfect age and stage to come in at the bottom as Pelech and Toews move up one notch.

Very agreed. I do believe Gibson will inevitably stay in Anaheim, but they could in all theory get a great return for him of they chose to move him. Think a Colorado. They would love Gibson i feel and have tons of stuff to toss around. For fowler, are meaning he can get a lot in a trade or be a great asset for Anaheim.

I like this team, well done. Is Comtois ready to stay in the NHL? I loved watching him in the world juniors 2 years ago, he was a beast.

I think Manson will (assuming stays relatively the same as he was this year through he's early 30's, which I don't think is that big of an ask) Fowler idfk, he had by far good best year in recent memory this year, is that sustainably idk, he's a very strange player for me to judge rn, but I do think this team can compete sooner than most think, I think they're well closer to coming out of a rebuild than going in, if we draft right in 2020, we could have the year after this a first line with Zegras and Raymond/Rossi, second of likely Comtois-Steel-Terry/Rakell, that's not a bad top 6, Gibby in net, and a still solid Lindholm-Manson+Fowler and likely Mahura, Thrun on the bottom pair, that's a capable defense, am I possibly looking through rose tinted googles, maybe, but I think that team could compete (it helps that I'm high on just about everyone in the 2020 draft and that if they sit a year, and Zegras does I could see that line having two Calder nominees on it, though they'll likely want to split them up to start at least and run a more balanced group) plus the Pacific is still a weak division, SJ is completely screwed by Burns Vlasic Jones, and those Couture EK and Kane contracts aren't exactly helping their ability to acquire solid depth... Alberta I just see as meh, EDM has McD, a decent defence, but not much else, Yammo and RNH are ok middle 6ers, but I don't trust Koskanen long term in net... and Drai, I'm assuming that if you are looking at stats showing Lindholm's regression, you know about Drai's defensive woes (and insane PP scoring rate) CGY had rumors of rebuild this yr, an inconsistent at best forward group, a really really good defense though, but again, a big ? In net, can Rittich be the guy consistently, VGK is already looking at a downward slide, I don't see Seattle coming in the same way as VGK, and LAK is in a similar spot, but without Gibby and with Doughty's anchor of a contract... Then VAN, they're good and built for sustainable success... Now for the Lindholm regression, I have some hope for him to bounce back, last year he had HCRC, absolutely everyone (other than Kase) sucked. This year he got hurt like 12 games in, missed two or three, came back briefly, but then got hurt and missed a substantial amount of time, I think that jump back in the middle of the year can hurt a player significantly, they hadn't played a game in at least a month, and they're playing guys right in their peak have shape, before the seemingly never ending months of Feb and March... I noticed it with Nylander (obv different situation, but he still hadn't played an NHL game that year) last year, and Lindholm Crosby and Hjalmarsson this year... Maybe I'm imagining things, maybe not, idk

Sorry for the block of text that likely wasn't explained all that well... I had a ton of thoughts on your relatively small comment...

In conclusion, the point of this was, I would not even entertain offers on Gibson, I fully expect him to bounce back next year, and I'd have to absolutely be blown away by a Lindholm offer, we don't have another defenseman in the system even close to having the potential to do what he did this year, much less what he's shown he's been capable of
