Until Reinhart and Nurse show they are not # 1 round pick busts, there trade value is very low.

That's an unfair assessment. If they weren't drafted as high, lets says 3-4th round instead, we'd be a lot easier on them and thus they would have value. People throw the "bust" word out too much. Nurse is 21, Rienhart is 22. Dmen take longer to groom. Kind of hard to learn the ropes when your a youngster and your already one of the better dman on the team. Its not fair to them. Not too mention they are learning in Edmonton, quite possibly the worst defencive team the league has had the past 7-8 years. Put both guys in Detroit's organization and they'd not sniff NHL action until only this year, where by now they have had a chance to grow in confidence and knowledge of what it takes at this level and would be way farther ahead in the development scale. Edmonton brought Nurse up way too early and Reinhart needs another year in AHL but while staying healthy.

Not busts. Just not developed right and still too young to label. Both together still have quite a bit of value. Maybe you wouldn't be able to get two 1st rounders for them right now but that formula works with any non top 5 pick in the draft. The minute a player is drafted, that pick loses value because the player depreciates in value steadily until he proves himself. A draft pick never depreciates as long as the selection position is known.

Those 3 packaged together is pretty darn close to as valuable as you can get. Give each guy one more year in AHL/NHL and with slight improvements by each of them as proof, I'd trade any player on the Habs roster for that package.

I like the trade... but I think Petro will get the 'C' and there is no chance the Blues are hearing offers for him. At 6.5 mil AAV while he's 26-30, there is no reason to trade him, even for some potentially great players. It sucks that Shatty won't play for EDM; I think there are a bunch of trade combinations between STL and EDM that we could take advantage of if he would stop being a square.

Why would STL do this trade? They are a cup contender and Pietrangelo is one of the best D in the league.

Best D in the league? Hes not even the best on his team. Shatenkirk does much more. If Parayko takes anonther step forward I might be making the case Pie is the third best on the team.
Dont get me wrong, Im a big pie fan, I loved the guy when he was playing for Canada at the world juniors and he is a great player, but one of the best D in the league is a bit of a stretch.

Guy is largely regarded as one of the best in the league already dude. Don't know where your getting your info. There's a reason Pie plays more than Shatty on a regular basis. Given his age, contract, production, etc, he's easily the best dman on the team. Its the reason Shattenkirk won't be resigned because if he was the best on the team, STL wouldn't lose him for nothing like that. Porayko is definitely a young stud but lets see him play 25 mins a night against top competition before crowning him the next superstar dman.
