We have no cap space More Leafs fan stupid to rip apart right here

Created by: rpatrick
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 22, 2020
Published: Apr. 22, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is the best I could do assuming the cap doesn't move at all.
Any suggestion please give them and I will fix it. Some of the contracts are probably overpays or underpayments so I would like some constructive advice. No insults.
And I mean this team is terrible, I know, but Leafs management was banking on a rising cap and that doesn't look like it's going to work out so...

Doubt PIT does it, and we don't need another offensive defenseman

There's not much else in the market. But if you give a suggestion I'll try to fit it in.
Also I can add a Leafs pick somewhere if needed.

Not a chance Pittsburgh does it. Aston-Reese is the best defensive Forward in the league. If Leafs wanted to acquire him, it would be for Kapanen/Marner + 1st Round pick.

DeMelo stinks Shattenkirk is way better. Shattenkirk made the US Olympic Team.

Go take a look at Aston-Reese’s stats. Has the least expected goals per 60 rate.

What would you think a fair value for Demelo is?

it would not take Marner to get him. That would be robbery by PIT

Well, Shattenkirk has been better this season too. DeMelo can’t skate & move the puck, Shattenkirk is good in every aspect of the game.

He is probably worth 2 million maximum but teams will be lining up to give him 4-5 million. I suggest sticking to Shattenkirk.

I thought Shattenkirk at 3 mil was a bit of stretch there was going to be someone willing to give him more, considering he already has 34 points this year as a defenseman.

Youre way overvaluing Marner. He isn’t even that good. If he wasn’t getting carried by Matthews, he wouldn’t even have half as many points. Any scenario in which the Leafs get rid of his cap hit is a win.

I agree....really like DeMelo…..see a lot of Sens game as I am in Ottawa and he played 20 minutes most nights against other teams top players....usually with young Chabot.....he's the RD everyone wants...would be good with Reilly or if someone better is also had would be a perfect partner to pair with Sandin….he is nothing fancy but plays a sound game

Yes Shattenkirk will get a lot of money. He is an elite defenseman.

that's simply not true. This was his first year playing with Matthews. Every single year that he's been in the league his line mates have produced career highs or else they came close to it. It's not a coincidence

He’s the most vastly overpaid player in the game. Honestly, he’s just not built for the NHL. He’s small, weak & soft. He always gets knocked over & refuses to hit & fight. He doesn’t have the talent to make up for his poor physique. In a few seasons he’ll be out of the league. He gets carried by Auston Matthews & is only good at generating secondary assists, which is a worthless stat. The Leafs were better off giving that roster spot to Jeremy Bracco or Nick Robertson, could’ve saved them 11 million too.

Patty Kane is a small guy who racks up assists and has played with great players like toews and panarin, does that make him bad? Absolutely not. 94 point 22 year olds don't grow on trees. Its not a coincidence that every single player he plays with puts up career numbers (or close to it), especially in goals, every single year. For when u say that's not true:
Rookie Year:
Bozak: 55 pts. High: 49 pts
JVR: 29g/62pts. High: came w Marner the next year but we'll get there
Sophomore:
JVR:36g/54 pts
Kadri: 32g (tied for career high), 55 pts (2nd highest. also missed 2 games)
Y3:
Hyman: 21g (tied with again Marner next year), 41 pts (career high)
Tavares: 47g (>prev. high by 10g), 88pts (career high)
Y4:
Hyman 21g (tied from last year w Marner, highest g/pg by a lot), 37pts (highest p/pg by a lot)
Matthews: 47g(career high and on pace for many more), 80pts (high and on pace for many more)

has played with some pretty good lines, and some pretty average lines, but clear that he drives play and makes his teammates much better.

Marner himself:
61 pts
69pts
94pts
67pts (on pace for 93 in an 82 game season)

Defensive game has also been improving. Now a valuable penalty killer.
