Description

Under these conditions, it would be necessary to use a "compliance buyout" on David Backes to remove his cap hit, despite the fact that he only costs us $2.5 million in actual cash.

This would also require us to forego re-signing Christian Djoos and perhaps Jani Hakanpaa.

I know a lot of people are against us signing Pietro and would rather take a depth defender like DeMelo.

I feel like if you are trying to sign Pietrangelo, Gudbranson would be the first to go. I think he's movable especially with only 1 year left.

Also I really like how Djoos performed in ANA, I don't think he will cost too much to I say sign him and have either Djoos or Larsson as you bottom LHD.

Those two Mahura and Guhle all have the potential to win that spot next year... It's gonna be an interesting training camp

I mean there's Getz, Perry's buyout and Guddy coming off, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Silf or Henrique go, especially if we need cap space

As @AFOX10900 points out, there's almost $14 million coming off just on Getzlaf, Gudbranson and Perry, plus there's Backes' hit disappearing if it hasn't already.

I really love the Djoos and Hakanpaa signings, because now we won't have to protect them in the expansion draft but the odds now increase that we'll be able to sign them long-term afterwards.
