Is Copp really a step up from Jost? I don't see that move being all that necessary.

Copp isnt a step up from calvert.. seems like an unnecessary trade, probably to much money for nichushkin. I'd rather keep zadorov than cole also

Copp is good defensively. Probably the best defensive forward if he was to get traded to COL. Similar production offensively to Jost as well. So, I would say yes.
NicholasM2699 and Dan10900 liked this.

Copp is better both defensively and offensively. And he has been placed on a line with hardly any offensive support this past year. Avs need to move on from Jost, and he won't get much more than a decent third liner. Key to playoff success is being superb in both ends. Having both Calvert and Copp on two lines with their defensive flare will make penalty killing and defensive zone coverage very difficult for the other team.

Also Val costs a bit more than he should to make it only a 1 year deal. I'd rather use his rights as trade bait, though I don't see that happening.

Valeri should not be on the 4th line. He's arguably the best defensive forward in the game. Needs to be in top 9 at least.

Copp is good, but just about no one is better than Valeri: https://public.tableau.com/shared/7HBYDC7Y6?:display_count=y&:origin=viz_share_link

Much has to do with the team they are on. WPG struggled as a whole this year. Swap Copp back to last year and his stats are great. Val's were awful. Copp has consistently been better, Val is good, yeah, but he has a lot going his way on COL

Copp has scored 4 more pts than Calvert and 9 more pts than Jost in the last 3 years. His and Calvert CF% are in the same area, and Jost is going to make a million less next season than Copp. I’ll take Jost his potential and save the million 7 days a week.

Nichushkin is an RFA you don’t need to over pay him that much to take a 1yr deal and no way Kamenev gets anything more than a 1yr deal.

But I like the general ideas.

Ik it's basically a necessity in every trade now, but with this team do you REALLY need to protect that first lol
