what price Jake Allen

Created by: bishopsdad
Team: 2019-20 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: May 4, 2020
Published: May 4, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Habs have cap space, picks and need a reliable backup tender.
Blues need cap space and have moved on from Allen.
Seems like a deal could be done but I don't know what the Blues would want in return.
Trades
STL
  1. Lindgren, Charlie
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (CHI)
Additional Details:
I see the Habs wanting to move on from Lindgren, who might benefit from a change of environment. Pick would be conditional on Allen's performance.

Habs should just bring up Cayden and use them as a tandem...give Price some workload management to extend his career so he won't breakdown as fast.

That I think might be their plan B. There is some merit to letting Cayden get another year as an AHL starter rather than having him riding the pine for 60-65 games a year.

Keep Lindgren, give us a 4th and we'll call it a deal.

rhats exactly the point playing Price 60 games a uwar is going to destroy him. You split them 50-30 and you are much better off

Wow, though Allen might be good, to take on his 4.3m contract seems steep especially for two years for the Habs. Think I team like the Wings, with cap and a goalie need for two years may take him...but with no asset being traded to Blues, who will happy getting the cap space.

Price is getting old and needs a reliable backup. They've been cycling through crap cheap options for years now and what happens? Keith Niemi-kad gets lit up and Price has more starts than any other 1A goalie until his knees/groin give up. Meanwhile the Habs have a ton of cap space they're not using. Why not pay top dollar so they can have a fresh-ish Price for the games that really matter?

Okay, I am overpaying in my ACGM post but I think there is logic to this idea.

But why couldn't he play ~37 That's what I mean by load management. Only allow Price play 45 games a year. PLUS that would keep him fresh for a playoff run.

because the Habs will need to win a fair chunk of those 37 to get to the playoffs next year and Cayden is inexperienced and might struggle with that kind of workload at this point?

I'm a fan of Snake, sure. But the reality is we need to shed some cap. Sacrifices must be made.

The last thing the Habs need, Is an expensive backup Jake Allen backing up Carey Price. Allen for one season in Detroit makes far more sense then an expensive backup in Montreal.
