Team: 2020-21 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: May 5, 2020
Published: May 5, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
With 2.1 mil back for McGinn, 2 back for Martinook, 5.75 back for Hamilton, the remainder of Semin's buyout gone, and Reimer/Mrazek off the books, there is enough space to re-sign both Svechnikov and Hamilton to extensions. Gallagher may be tricky, but the cap for that should be there too.

They need better defenseman, both LD and RD.

Montreal fans will never agree to trade Gally. Also I doubt there will be much talk between Habs and Canes for a couple years

Don't waste your money on Hall. Save it for someone better.

Yes and yes. Both are VERY valid points, but.... hockey is a business and at the end of the day if Dundon and Waddell offer enough, Montreal will trade him. That being said, I do get what you mean entirely.

If you really wanted Gallagher, wait a year and chase him out of Montreal for example. Or Schwartz or Tatar. They'd all cost maybe half of Hall would.

12.5 for hall is steep. i would say if he asks for more than 10-11 mil (with a flat cap) i wouldn't sign him

Gallagher would be re-signed in a heart beat. Montreal have all the cap space they could ever ask for. Tatar and Schwartz are less than half the player Hall are, which makes Hall the better deal. I'd stick with Taylor thanks.

It's steep, but Carolina have the space.... so why not? No one else would go above it and it would work for both parties.

I wouldn't take Hall just to have Hall. It's always good to have space if the opportunity arises for someone better than hall who is cheaper than what McDavid is making.

Side note. Because of flat cap, you could get Hall for less.

If I were the Canes, I wouldn't spend money just because you have it. It's a young team that will need lots of raises, and idk if signing hall is the right move. Maybe a cheaper guy like hoffman so that you still have cap space going forward. That's just my thinking, but maybe it's a possibility

Hoffman and his.... luggage? No thanks. I looked at him and Dadanov, but given Dadonov's history with the Canes, Hall was the only viable option.

Not to mention, Carolina isn't exactly a team rolling in revenues; they need to be looking long term not sure term. And any team willing to pay Hall $12.5M is out of their minds.

Carolina are owned by a Billionaire, money isn't a problem. It's why they are fully capable of spending past the cap as they are doing currently. The price of hall may be high, but it would ensure his signature, and it would give Carolina that final top 6 piece.

A lot of teams are owned by Billionaires buddy, that is irrelevant. These guys are businessmen and operating a business in the red for too long is not how they became a billionaire. It's a strawman argument whenever (in any sport) someone says ; "a billionaire owns them so money doesn't matter".

Dundon bought the team 30 months ago buddy, did you miss this? Plus they made profit last year, he's not losing money xD. It's why he can afford to spend to the cap

I didn't miss this guy; did you miss the fact that a lot of team owners are billionaires so what's your point referencing a billionaire other then to assume billionaires don't care about money and running profitable companies?

Last year, the Hurricanes made a whooping $3.6M in operating income (due to the playoff run) being only the second year in 10 years they haven't operated in the red (prior to that was the 16/17 season and due to revenue sharing that year).

Currently the team ranks #25th in most valuable...better then prior to Dunden where they were at the absolute bottom so good improvement.

There is a lot of cost that goes into operating a NHL team beyond salary cap implications obviously and 15K a night in attendance will not cut it. So maybe Dunden just wants an expensive hobby and piss money away while becoming the laughing stock of other NHL owners and businessmen alike....I doubt it though.

There's multiple false statements here. Carolina have never been worth less than the Panthers or Coyotes. At this moment in time they are projected to be in profit again, whereas teams like San Jose are not. And you missed Dundon coming in, since Dundon took over he's made 10 mil off owning the team through various forms of merchandise, Don Cherry handing him a beautiful sales pitch and like you said a playoff run. According to the Athletic's Sara Civian, the Hurricanes sold more season tickets than Winnipeg, Edmonton, Vancouver, Calgary and Ottawa. So you're missing the point entirely. You're look at stats from a team that was owned by a cheapskate, and Karmanos is a cheapskate. But dundon has only made profit during the complete seasons he's owned the Hurricanes for. I think you've missed this point big time
