If We Need To Play

Created by: Kotkaniemi15

Description
If Montreal ends up having to play games this summer, with a 30 man roster (to reduce travel, in case of injuries). I really don’t like the idea of playing this year, but this is what it could be like.

This would be pretty good except for LHD. Could they get Romanov in instead of Kulak

Weirdly, it’s looking like Romanov won’t be able to play this year, since he wasn’t signed when the season was stopped. Which doesn’t make sense, since someone like Gusev was able to play for Vegas after the KHL playoffs last year. Anyways, if we could sign Romanov, my D pairings would be:

Chiarot - Weber
Kulak - Petry
Romanov - Mete

I don’t see the problem with him. He plays great with Petry, and it’s not like he needs to play special teams.

I dont think its that weird, if they allowed guys to play they are going to just create a mess for themselves in terms of how it impacts first years of ELCs (teams will find a way to exploit it), additional playoff games impacting ELC bonuses, etc or Teams complaining of unfair advantages (this player wouldnt have been available if the season was going so why can be now for example),

why give themselves a headache they dont need. Especially if they bend the rules and do an expanded playoff format. Dont over complicate it by adding another variable. They are already making a mockery of the lottery draft and having the draft in June for no good reason, they have enough problems

Spleen injuries usually take 2 months to recover from at worst. The soonest hockey comes back is in July, which will be 4 months after he sustained his injury. But if he doesn’t feel like it would be good for him to return, that’s fine, I’m just showing what the team would most likely look like.

At worst!! And you are a doctor now? When i was 12 i poncture my spleen and i could play hockey or sky for 15 week. For over 8 week a was forbidden to make any muscular effort. So the Doctor back then was wrong?

I don’t know this is just what I’ve read. I’m no doctor, so I’m just able to read articles about when he might return. Again, I’m just projecting what the roster might look like, so if you want my lines without KK, here they are:

Tatar - Danault - Gallagher
Drouin - Suzuki - Armia
Byron - Domi - Weal
Lehkonen - Evans - Hudon

it changes the dynamic of the offseason. historically 1/3 of the player trades are done at the draft (keep in mind days leading up and one weekend vs 350 some odd days). Early draft taking away player transaction you throw a huge wrench into contending teams playoff offseason plans.

There is no good reason to do it other than try to get some quarantine viewership eyes on it but no one will care outside of the niche draft hockey fanbase, you wont get casual people to watch the draft to see teams select Canadian kids or European kids they have never heard of.

Also freezing the roster standings and changing lottery rules is pretty dumb too, the whole system is set up for teams that tank on purpose not to have the best odds of getting top picks...Detroit was tanking, so 70 some games of them tanking..the nhl is now saying that as ok. Just dumb

For most teams, it changes everything. Montreal for example, has 14 draft picks, and they might have wanted to use some of them to trade for players. Now they’re not able to, and they end up with a tonne of prospects of the same age in the reserve list, and fewer ways to improve their team. Plus many teams decide what they do with their team and draft picks depending on their playoff, which they’re not able to do in a June draft.

throwing out a draft system that was in their mind working just fine bc 10 odd games cant be played is the most NHL thing they can do, especially if they plan on expanding the playoff format as well. Those 10 games are irrelevant to tanking and who is making the playoffs in a 24 team field.

avs have cap space to weaponize, they could snag a good player on a cap crunch team. The draft is where teams start to shape their offseason roster direction. Taking a major variable out of teams offseason plans is just such misguided nonsense from the NHL

I know its great for you guys, making out like bandits.
But man is it a gut punch to Avs fans having the best odds to draft 1st overall and move back to 4th. Granted getting Makar and Byram with those picks, not too bad, but thats not the point. Draft system was in place, why does it need to change now especially when one team was openly tanking in Detroit.

The NHL has banned prospects that would play their first year of their ELC this summer. Kirill Kaprizov is another example as he wouldn't be able to play for the Wild this summer.
