This is my issue with offer sheets, theyre so rarely signed, yet people on here always use the "just offer sheet him" argument. It will be the exact same way with Tampas RFAs

They're rarely even offered, let alone signed.

Pojnt received at least 1, i dont think Tkachuk or Rantanen did. Hell Marner might not have either and the media just hyped the hell out of the possibility.

In every leafs ACGM they have mikheyev signing between 1.2 and 1.7 mill aav... why would colorado offer sheet him for over 3 mill aav??

Toronto cant afford to pay him over 2 mill and keep what they have and sign a new defensive core.. why not pay him 2.1mill and spend a 3rd instead of a 4th... I bet he takes that over the torontos 1.7 when thinking about the taxes included

too easy to match imo. that extra $1m and 2nd round pick make it easier to walk away. dubas takes that $3m and 2nd round pick and does something with that rd he has.

Maybe, people say NYI offered him one but seeing their financial situation this year it seems less likely. There is no actual proof though as that information is usually confidential.

If I'm not mistaken, Marner or his agent did say after the contract was signed that he did receive offer sheets, but I could be remembering incorrectly, or it could be bs and was just a PR move because they also said they rejected them right away and only wanted to play in Toronto. I think Columbus was one of the teams.

Let's say he matches the 2.1... that 2 mill out of his empty pocket which means he has to say by to 2 of kapanen, kerfoot, and johnsson in order to try and sign a decent dcore.. making his team weaker.. maybe he walks away at 2.1

They match $2.1m in a heartbeat. They have the ability to match $3m if they want to, it would just mean other moves/concessions would have to be made as well.

I would let Mikheyev walk. He had one good season with the Leafs and there are no other stats to prove he will be consistent enough to proclaim his true value.

In their wallet. It's really not that difficult for them to match. I can't speak to the teams intentions or their personal valuation of Mikheyev (maybe they do shy away from an OS because they're worried about his injury), but they have the ability to match that OS without doing much, if any, damage to the team if they value Mikheyev above other players.

my thought exactly. the leafs are over extended on forwards. $3m and a 2rd round pick give the avs a great chance of walking away with the player and i prefer the player over letting the leafs dig the hole deeper. it's win-win for colorado.

The NJ trade makes zero sense. Using assets, increasing the pay of the 4th line AND blocking prospects is foolish. Then take into account Bednar’s penchant for playing the 4th line so little and it’s even more foolish.

makes sense to me and reduces total pay even if it increases pay for the 4th line. avs are going for a cup not rebuilding, prospects don't get guaranteed time now they have to earn it. building the best nhl roster is first priority. prospects are second priority. not sure why you bring up bednar's playing time for 4th line when you know he's been slashing both zadorovs and josts playing time all year.

Yes

because with a flat cap you have about 5.1 million to sign 7 players and the league minimum is 700K
