Johansen JP Edmundson

Created by: arafay
Team: 2020-21 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 19, 2020
Published: Jun. 19, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
2020 draft picks:
Pick somewhere in the top 20: Connor zary
43 oa: William Villeneuve
5th rounder: dimitry ovchinnikov (or any other high risk/high reward player)

Was strongly debating zary or Barron, but ultimately went with zary since if we draft villeneuve, Barron isn’t that important. I think zary will be a johansen 2.0, but a little more skilled. If he develops faster than expected, then johansen becomes a movable piece, but that’s at least 2 years away.

Villeneuve is a bit of a reach at 43 according to rankings but I really like his game. He has a good frame already (I see him topping out a just under 6’2) and is an excellent puck mover, especially in transition, which is very valuable. He a great skater, though I am concerned with his form since he isn’t bent over but rather standing while skating. However I feel that is fixable. His in zone coverage is great and he doesn’t shy away from physical play which is good considering he will have a bigger frame than most and the jets’ current problem with clearing the net.

Roster:
When trading for johansen I used the subban and turris trades as comparables. Subban since he had a high cap hit coming off a bad year and turris because of similarities in average production before his trade from Ottawa. In both trades a first was not involved so that is the main selling point. Harkins has potential to be a top 6 player imo (he proved he can at least hang in the top 6 already after his 2 game stint with scheifele and wheeler). Stanley on the other hand is almost a sure bet to get to the nhl, but lacks upside.

For the Jp trade, roslovic is a future top 6 player, but I don’t have the cap space to keep him so the jets move him for a potential top 6 player and good friend of Laine’s in JP and a decent 4th liner (now on a league minimum for the jets after retention)

MTL trade is any team

Edmundson takes a hometown discount to fit him in (cause all this is a pipe dream anyway so why not)

Roster is 1 short but with the farm team in the same city, that shouldn’t be much of an issue.

As for the lack of draft picks, we should gets some back before the expansion draft. Since exposing all of edmunson, copp, niku isn’t smart. I expect 2 get traded and we move a minor asset for them to stay off the 3rd

Edmundson in the top 4? You're funeral, but he'll want more money than that

He’s only a stopgap option until heinola or Samberg can step in. He won’t even be in that spot for the whole season. I see on it heinola or Samberg playing there by Christmas. As I said in the description, he takes a discount, cause why not 😂

Also he’s playing next to pionk who somehow managed to make kulikov like a serviceable top 4 option 😂

What about the other moves?

Spacek isn't worth absorbing Perreault's contract.

Hard to say Johansen will get moved because its hard to know what the direction is in Nashville. I think the value is fine but it seems like a rebuild move, and even though this wasn't a good year idk if they are going to sell like that.

Add in a 3rd? i honestly don’t care as long as it’s less than a 2nd and isn’t any really valuable prospects.

They did move subban after 1 bad year (though other issues were involved) and it wasn’t a rebuild move. Rather it was a move to sign duchene. What if they do the same but to sign a guy like Hoffman, hall, or even peitrangelo? That’s my thinking behind it at least

“any team”. You may not think perreault is at all valuable but he is an energy winger that some teams would like to have. For example. Buffalo paid a 4th for frolik.

its definitely a possibility. I think the Jets would be a good fit and I think Johansen is a good enough passer to play with their wingers. Fits their style well as a big body. Question mostly lies on if the Preds feel they can get a better bang for their buck through free agency if they move him like you said. If you can get Hall or Pietrangelo at 8 mill then you probably take the assets

Exactly. That’s not to far-fetched too for a team like Nashville since they don’t have state income taxes

I think johansen could thrive in WPG. He’s a very good passer and played great along the boards which is something WPG needs in a center for Laine. He would also help the pk a lot.

Be honest, is this too little or just right? Cause I could add a pick coming to WPG if need be? I was more focused on filling the roster

I think we would have to add a bit, so I think Puljujarvi is worth about a 2nd, and Khaira maybe a 4th, or 5th. So ya if you want me to be honest we would probably have to add.

One year at 4 million. If a second isn’t possible a 3 would be fine

Sure honestly, if this team can get put together, it is for sure a contender, so if a 3rd what it takes to make it happen, sure

Ya that sounds right to me. It also depends on how much you value both Puljujarvi and Roslovic. I would say their values are almost the same, I think the main difference in the values is that Roslovic is playing in the NHL, and Puljujarvi is in Finland. So ya, Puljujarvi, 3rd and Khaira could probably do it honestly. Most Jets fans wouldn’t even do that, because they value Roslovic super high, and Puljujarvi low, but we will have to see..

Oh I value roslovic high too, but with johansen we don’t need a future 2c. We can just patiently draft one. Some also view him as wheelers replacement in the top 6 but that’s too far away rn imo. So replacing roslovic for a cheaper Jp is a smarter move if we get a guy like johansen.

Jp woudl also fit our timeline better since he will still be an RFA in 5 years when the wheeler, scheifele, and now johansen contracts would expire.

Ok. Ya that could help both of us, if Puljujarvi agrees to play for the Jets! Roslovic can be our 3c in Edmonton and Puljujarvi can probably be on your third line until he is ready for top 6. By then Wheeler might be traded or retired.

I just don't see Nashville moving on from Johansen just yet, he would be a nice addition though and do think he'll rebound but who replaces him if they trade him? Turris or Bonino? There's just no centers available really so can't see Poile dealing Johansen even if he did have a down year and really if he did I'm sure he'd send him to an eastern conference team, not a central division rival, it would be a great trade for the Jets though and even if Johansen never quite lives up to his $8M salary it's not that bad as 1 or 2C's cost, look at the Hayes deal.

Honestly I think the trade is fair as is. I still think Puljujarvi has value, right now Roslovic is the better player but I think Puljujarvi has the potential to be better in the end. Khaira is a fourth line player but plays with some grit and is excellent on the Pk. I personally wouldn’t add to the trade
