Before anyone comments on Domi not being worth 8th OVA. Consider this will the 8th pick likely Lundell be able to help the team next year or the year after to the same degree as Domi? Probably not! Then there is the following data to also consider.

These are all the players from the 2013-2015 draft (23-25yrs old) that I believe are worth the 8th overall pick and are not considered "superstars", but elite. I have their ppg over the past 2 seasons and average GAR%/xGAR% percentile among forwards over the past two seasons. As a Sabres fan, I think Reinhart is a good reference point. From this list, the only ones that may be available are Domi, Ehlers, Cirelli. This list in my opinion proves that Domi belongs in this elite group of top 6 forwards and is worth 8th overall.

Monahan .88 2013 79.3%
Lindholm .87 2013 89.7%
Larkin .86 2014 89.3%
Boeser .80 2015 84.4%

Mantha .78 2013 85.8%

every single knowledgable sabres fan ive interacted with on this site has been completely against Domi for 8th overall. Domi for a 2021 Top 10 protected Pick is a fair trade.

I see so now your insulting someone who isn't even here to defend themselves! Classy!

I figured the Hawks would be contenders next year and Petry would help solidify the RHD plus you offload Shaw as well. Plus the Habs would probably extend Petry before losing him for nothing

Our LHD needs more than our RHD, probably wont look to make any long term moves there until Boqvist and Mitchell show what they are. If shaw can play we definitely keep him, but if not he just goes on LTIR

Can you please show me where I SAID Domi was elite? Like I said earlier the trade proposal and description came from another thread created by SABERTOOTH12! I could have edited it to pretend it was my own bit I am not that type of person, I have more integrity than that.

BTW what did Vancouver give up in the JT Miller trade? Oh right a 1st! How about Ottawa what did they get for Pageau who has about the same skill set and value as Domi? Right a 1st 2020 (strong draft not lottery protected) + 2nd + 3rd! The value is spot on for Domi just haters like to hate!

clown. also those picks are not guaranteed to be 8th overall. way too much for domi. no team is paying that

laugh laugh Domi equals the #8 pick, Mete doesn't equal Ristolainen. That's a bad trade for Buffalo.

Hawks decline so easily. We have too many defenceman as it is, we aern't giving you a top 10 pick for petry. That trade is comically bad

Shaw will be on LTIr. No need to offload him. If he somehow is healthy then we don't want to offload him. He is exatcly what our lineup is missing and we will happily welcome him back

Fair enough, a healthy Shaw would make any team better!

Actually you’re the clown considering how I haven’t read one single comment that actually says both the Chicago and the buffalo trades are fair lol.

I honestly don't know if I'd trade you Risto for that package. If you want the 1st OA Domi and Mete is a fair package, we can throw in Montour if you give us a 2nd

you look like the idiot who thinks domi is an "elite" player lmfao get out of here. Domi is a 50-60 point player. hes scored 251 points in 375 games throughout his career, thats a 55 point pace. Last time I checked, guys who score 50-60 points are not worth top 10 picks

I can argue both sides on this idea. Pageau and Miller were both traded with protection on the first round picks. Millers trade goes to a 2021 first if Vancouver does not make playoffs so basically top 16 protected and the Isles were in a playoff spot and the pick is top.3 lottery protected so looking at best like it would have been around 12th o/a, but definitely not top 10. That being said the Sabres are in need of players that can help them now not in one to 2 years. If you look back at the draft over the past 20 years players picked in the range of 8th o/a most have amounted to less productive players than Domi. Some very similar, some slightly more productive and a few much better elite players. The Sabres alone have drafted 3 times at 8 o/a in the past several years and I would trade all of those players ina heartbeat for Domi. So I think ultimately as a Sabres fan I make this deal and ask for a 2nd round pick back knowing that there is a 25% chance that the player taken at 8 o/a becomes elite and MTL ends up winning the deal decidedly. Obviously I push for the pick to be a 2021 first with top 5 protection but if it has to be 8 o/a I do it.
