Good value for Barzal and you'd probably have to pay him 10 mill like you have.
I think the islanders make this deal if they cant sign Barzal, they are a worst team without him for sure, but Domi fills in for him and they restock their prospect cupboard after trading for JGP

Yeah Lou wont deal Matt Barzal, You can only offer him 7 years not 8 years no different then a UFA. Only Islanders can do 8 so it would need to be a sign and trade. And doubt that gets it done.

If MTL trades for his rights I believe they can sign him to an 8yr deal. If they were to only do an offersheet the max is a 7yr deal.

I thought so to, But was told even if you acquire an RFAs rights it's still only 7 years would need to be a sign and trade to do 8 years.

that Sens deal is horrible for Habs, Alzner can be bought out or kept in AHL without losing any assets.

Bergevin would never pay that much for Barzal. iam not saying that this isn’t what it would take to move him from the Islanders, but MB just won’t pay that much. 10m for a 60-70 pts guy is too much imo

The only way for another team to give him an 8 year deal was for them to acquire Barzal before the Trade Deadline, so this season the Isles are the only ones that can give him an 8 year deal.

The deal wouldnt do it for the Islanders anyway as there is no one to take over Barzal's place as 1C. It would cripple them.

I would hate to be Barzal if the deal went through. Sure he might be making more as a Hab, but for years he will be under scrutiny by the Hab fans and media. Eight years in Montreal and more than likely not getting past round one during almost all that time. Sorta like a Eichel situation. Making great money but likely aren't getting past the Bruins/Tampa and even possibly the Leafs. And the Wing and Sens might be good soon with their young players and cap space.

If I'm the Isles, I don't make the deal. Force the Habs into giving up the picks in an offer sheet, and then the Isles have about the 8m cap space with the missing Barzel money.

If that is the case I would OS him at 10 Mil x 5 years so the Habs only lose 2 1st's a 2nd and a 3rd! Now what package would you rather get? Keep in mind that the picks would be for 2021 and 2022 so not a very deep draft class.

But the Isles would still have about 8m to spend without having Barzel, plus the picks. If you Domi is taken back in a trade, what cap does he eat up?
