Backlund NTC so thats not good, but id do it depending on what Reinhart is looking for in a contract. LW is not a position of need

I don't know where this should make sense for the Leafs. Both Kerfoot and Kapanen are better than both Calgary player. And the difference is not a 3rd round pick

Sharks need everything - you can pretend they don't all you want but they need everything

It frees up a small amount of cap space , gives the Leafs a right shot C for 3 C, I do agree there should be more headed to TO

So why would we trade Labanc? Kylington is not where it starts

we don't need a LD. We have Vlasic, Ferraro, and Simek. Middleton is a solid 7th defenseman and in the future we have Kniazev. Would it hurt to get more defenseman? No probably not, but we need forwards way more so we aren't trading forwards for defenseman unless it's a steal.

Sabres should make this deal if Backlund agrees to waive. Perfect 2C bridge that can slide into 3C role in 1-2 years. Can play Gaudreau on offwing RW 2nd line similar to Kane in Chicago very similar game they play.
Leaves us lots of cap space plus all of our picks/prospects to acquire RW to play with Jack.

May as well take Holtz then at 8. Throw Skinner on the RW temporarily

Sharks have 2 solid young LD and Vlassic who we are stuck with for 5 more years at least, on top of that we have 3-4 kids in the minors who look to be NHL caliber LHD men so no we actually don’t need him
On top of that the weakest spot on both the sharks roster and in the minors is RW and RH shot, so why would we trade from
Our biggest weakness for a player that fits in one of our deepest positions?

Sharks say no not because of the value or the talent but because of position need.

Your also forgetting Carrrik, pasichynuk, Knyzhov! These three plus kniavev all grade out -around 4-7 NHL caliber with some potential in Pasichynuk and kniavev to be top 2 pairing defenders.

true, but in the future I see something like

Ferraro-Karlsson
Kniazev-Merkley
Simek-Roy

Don't really see where the others slot in

Trade bait and injury fill ins camp breakouts pushing others down you should have 5 players for 3 positions if you want true depth

Unless Kylington is worth a 32-36OA 2nd rounder, San Jose walks away pretty quick

Kylington is an NHL caliber defense that can play #4. So about what you want from a 2nd rounder

Unless they can get Hoffman or Toffoli on reasonable UFA deals or if they can acquire Rackell, Silfverberg, Boeser, etc

I wouldnt spend money on a UFA. I doubt Vancouver moves Boeser, sounds like an Eichel rumor. Rackell or Silfverberg should be realistically attainable imo despite what anaheim fans believe

If and it's a big if they can get Toffoli on 3 x 5 or Hoffman on 2 x 6 I would do that. I realize this is very optimistic and unlikely and if it takes more than this then I agree we should not commit to more term or AAV, but if some of the better RW ufas want to take short term lower AAV deals in Hope's of hitting it big in a few years when their might be a cap increase I don't mind trying to push forward this team a little faster.

Probably not but I don't think anyone can predict what this offseason will bring. It will likely be filled with alot of one offs and perhaps some non typical UFA deals and destinations.
