Got some kids waiting in the wings, and wpg defensive coaches starting to get used to working with hot trash, some dough clears for laine and defense improvements in year 2

Heinola over dahlstrom. I think NYI still match. Barzal is their best player

It isn’t as bad as it looks. Obviously heinola or Samberg would be in over dahlstrom and heinola is ready for top 4 minutes imo. Both heinola and niku should grow over the year as well

Ya I think that’s the only number worth an attempt at barzal, I just wonder with coaches system belief and building question marks if they take the compensation. But ya probably a 70/30 match. Slide through expansion draft losing copp, and 10 million for a Laine and pionk. Hope kids fill the rest of the holes in bottom pair and bottom 6

Heinola haven’t been that good in Liiga what can make you think he is Nhl top 4 ready. If he would have been dominant in Liiga maybe but i have seen him play a couple of time when i was watching Ylonen and he doesn’t look like Nhl defenseman. He need to get stronger and is decision making without the puck need improvement. For is on good a year in Ahl would be good for him. Samberg is probably more Nhl ready, i thibk he will step right in this year but still that defense is a bottom tier around the league.

Ya I believe your statement, I just couldn’t figure out the right moves for Lowry, pearrault, and or copp, or any other forwards for a 1 year top 4 lhd fix or a committee of beaulieu, kulikov, and or sbisa. To ride a year out or some other idea til samberg and heinola ready. The money of Lowry, pearrault, and copp is needed for laine and pionk, so cant really do anything large, so yes getting right up against cap. Possibly edmondsen come back to wpg for 1 year, best yes definitely a large hole, and too bad stanley not ready to fill. Be hungry 8 by comittee and 3 real and 5 hopefully fill the other 3 spots

Perreault could probably be dealt for a late round pick, he still have decent hockey left in him. Deteoit could probably acquire him for a 4th or 5 round pick and maybe play him on the powerplay just like ottawa did wit ennis and shop him for a better return at the deadline. That would leave enough money to target a decent defenseman. Tj brodie would be a very nice addition if Calgary aren’t able to extend him, Brodie can play borh side, eat up big minutes against top opponent and have offense to is game. Giving him a 4 or 5 years deal would gave them time to develop and not rush Heinola and Samberg. And would gave them a solid second pairing guy at reasonable cost.

Brodie grew up as wpg was his closest professional city, not that it means that much. Him, Edmonsen, and hamonic, possibly come to wpg on somewhat of a hometown discount possibly if cgy goes a different direction. Ya that Brodie idea is a good one. I think Barrie may end up in cgy or van, so only so much free agent money to go around. Probably zero chance wpg even has a offer sheet in the arsenal. But will interesting starting aug 1

Yeah exactly! But in my personal opinion Brodie is the best players among those three mentioned and is versatility make him worth much more then Hamonic and Edmundson. I can see Brodie taking a 4-5 years 5 millions deal that would be good for both side.

Good call and with a variety of pieces coming and around could find a home in a variety of roles, only issue might be the 731 of expansion, but that can be maneuvered especially if barzal doesn’t cost the picks or the cap. I just think that line could be something else, like a poor mans mcdavid drai add name here

It sure would be nice to see Barzal with some high end winger. Or Laine finally get is much needed Playmaking center.

I don't think it tempts it. Putting it like this, would I trade barzal for 2 firsts, a second, and a third? Not with the current team that is a piece away from a cup run.

Would I trade him for four firsts and end this cup window? Maybe if the isles could somehow land Lafrienie

Islanders would end up matching that. It would be more practical to rearrange the team then to let Barzal go.

. Nobody doing 4 firsts and caphit, only possible 4 firsts trade would be for lafreniere, 2 recent firsts and 2 future firsts

Exactly my point. So this doesn't tempt it. No team would go to the four pick range, and the isles would match what you have here.

I'm not sure how familiar you are with the isles situation, but they have a bit of a window where they "must" be good. Not only have they not been relevant, but they have a brand new stadium going up int he heart of LI set to open for the 2022 season. Right at that time, that's when they need their window open. They have it pretty well set up for that - and if it means risking their cap situation in the long run, it's no skin off their bones.

Sorry, but isles match this. And there's no way WPG goes higher. Just not a fit.

It’s all good, like this site for throwing out random ideas, and getting some knowledge and fanbases insights on there situations, was also getting annoyed with all the random defenseman heading for wpg, when the majority of the time it’s waiver wire bargain hunting or ufa off the radar slight overpays. One blockbuster for Myers in 10 years ish. The need is something at 2c, overpay for established or possibly somebody to grow into the position
