Cap Dumps

Description
ARI Trade: Arizona is projected to only have $1.5 mil in cap space so they have to clear cap if they want any chance at resigning Hall. Stepan is the most likely option as he is making $6.5 mil and his production has gone down. Detroit would have a lot of leverage since they are one of the only teams taking on cap dumps and Arizona pretty much has to get rid of Stepan which is why I think they could get a 1st round pick.

VAN Trade: This has been one of the few trades I've seen that most fans of both teams seem to agree on.

NYI Trade: The Islanders need to clear cap to make room for their RFA's. I think Ladd is pretty much untradeable which is why they may have to move Boychuk. I think Detroit may ask for more as the contract remaining is the same as Eriksson but I chose to leave it at a 1st because I think Islanders fans will already say no.

I would try and argue down to 3rd rounder + something else instead of a 2nd, but yea the general framework is solid.

Not sure about the Arizona trade. A bit much isn't it?

I could probably see it going down to a 2nd. I think the Red Wings have all the leverage though since Arizona basically has no cap space and they'll want to bring back Hall.

Just curious, what's the most you'd be willing to give up to dump Boychuk?

Honestly not much. He can still play, it's honestly more of our depth at RHD. If it wasn't as strong, we'd just keep him on the third pair. I'd rather give up Boychuk and not a 1st to the Red Wings for one of your cheaper, expiring cap dumps (i.e. Helm or Glendening).

Highly doubt Arizona does that, Stepan is a positive value player and worth at least a 3rd

All of these look about right. I reckon we'd make a couple of little moves. Some of those guys like Svech should probably go to a team for a pick/reclamation prospect. We would still have UFAs to trade at the deadline and young guys to take their spot. The guy we get at 4 could change this massively, but theres only so much I can bear to speculate on that before I go mad.

It sounds like I'm off on Stepan's value. I really don't think that Stepan is a positive value at this point in his career with his contract, though. He put him 28 points in 70 games and will be payed $6.5 million. If Detroit wouldn't get at least a 2nd or 3rd to take him on, the trade wouldn't make sense for us.

I'd like to give Svech one more chance to crack the lineup. I still think he could be a bottom 6 guy for us. This would be our beginning of the season roster so I didn't include any TDL deals. Probably all our UFA's would be up for sale though. So many different options for us at 4 but I don't really think there's anyone that would play in the NHL year one.

Arizona already has center depth issues and last thing they want to be doing is rushing their best C prospect (Hayton) into a top 6 role. Stepan is a very solid defensive center who fits the playstyle of Arizona well and is a key factor to their success.

Might add an Aho or Koivula to the 1st. Or another mid round pick

I think a 1st+3rd/4th is pretty fair. If that would work for the Islanders the Red Wings would accept.
