NJ probably wouldnt move on from Hughes that quickly. Still has oodles of potential

That Laine trade is actually horrendous. You got a guy whos gonna up 45+ goals a season for the next decade, and you are giving up a draft bust who hasn't played in the show, a mid to late 1st rounder, and a decent prospect. The only sure thing in that deal is the elite goal scorer in Laine.

Given his first season, the value in that Devils trade probably isn't that far off, but no way Devils are giving up on Hughes after one season.

Since everyone else has rightlfully focused on the unlikelihood of the trades, I'll comment on other stuff.

- Even if Petro would want to sign in VAN, that contract would be a terrible mistake for the Canucks as soon as next offseason when Petey, Hughes (and Laine!) all need raises. Pass.
- DiPietro is next year's starter... I mean power to him if it happens, that would be a meteoric rise in his development timetable!!
