So you want our top line center... and not only are you not sending a center back, but you’re sending two LD which is the position we probably have the most depth at. Oh and you want one of our RD which is the position we have the least depth at. Pass. Try to think about what the other team would actually want

For sure. Didn’t mean to come off wound up. All of a sudden everybody is posting Seguin trades and it makes me uneasy haha

Well yes, Seguin has a NMC, but that aside I don’t mind the deal at all. Honestly, Calgary is giving up too much IMO.

Playing Calgary’s system Gaudreau & Seguin SHOULD be comparable. It’s hard to compare them now because of the defense-heavy system Dallas has run the last two years.

As someone stated above, it’s hard to lose an RD given our current depth chart, but for a young, proven top-4 like Hanifin it’s hard to turn down a deal like that. Throw Hanifin in Dallas’ lineup and you run a defense of:

Lindell-Klingberg
Hanifin-Heiskanen
Harley-Oleksiak

Extremely LD heavy, but it also gives Dallas the ability to trade Lindell (which they should explore anyway).

Overall it sucks for the Stars in terms of RD depth, but Idk how you pass up on a deal like this if you’re Nill.

Columbus can’t afford that trade unless Wennberg is going the other way.

Yeah I thought about getting more cap in there somehow, like by altering/adding pieces and including Murray somehow, but I don't think Wennberg would be an option in any way.

The BJs could always move cap in a separate deal though. Murray would be pretty easy to move and it looks like with all the injuries on D for the Jackets last year they discovered that they have quite a few Dmen who can step up.

I know Anderson is an RFA here, but with the deal I signed him to the cap in the deal ended up being $5,350,000 out and $4,025,000 in for Calgary, so it's not like the Flames didn't eat some cap here. (although I realize you could just QO Anderson and he'd just have an AAV of $1,750,000 IIRC)

The problem is Wennberg and Backlund would be the same exact player... overpaid and not very consistent offensively. Columbus doesn’t really need Backlund. We need a guy who drives the play, Backlund doesn’t do that.

Yeah; not all that interested in Backlund. I don't see him providing much of an upgrade on what centers we already have.

If you guys think Backlund is comparable to Wennberg then of course you aren't interested, but just for the record Backlund isn't not even close to being a comparable to Wennberg. Just saying...

Hes closer then you think. Both players are solid defensive players who are streaky offensively. Wennberg is also younger then Backlund. I wanna say it’s at least a 5 year difference.

I get that Wennberg is 5 years younger and could get better, but you're saying Wennberg is comparable to Backlund right now, which simply isn't true.

The last 3 seasons Backlund has 51 goals, Wennberg has 15...
Backlund has 0.6 ppg, Wennberg has 0.40 ppg
Backlund is better at face offs
Backlund has a career 4.0% CF rel and 4.3% FF rel despite 53.6% Dzone starts
Wennberg has a career 1.6% CF rel and 1.3% FF rel with only 46% Dzone starts

Backlund is literally Calgary's #1 defensive center and gets all the tough assignments and match ups, and does everything better than Wennberg.
