Marleau just failed...we won't get Joe. Also Murray is gone.

On what planet is Barrie worth 7x$5mm? He'll be lucky to get a 2 year deal at his current salary.

Bjugstad doesn’t have positive value with that cap hit and actual dollars owed.

I`d take Jumbo on that third line. Pens always seem to want some sort of veteran chasing a cup. Would fit nice with McCann and Horny.

Bjugstad was hurt this year but pretty sure there would be a salary floor team willing to take a flier on a young 6`6 center.

I`d take a shot at him. Imagine getting him for 5$ last offseason? He had a down year in T.O but I would be willing to bank on a comeback. If you can get him for less years and less dollars sure but I think there is going to be bidding war a on open market.

Agreed but don’t think he has negative value either. I think a 6th at most, most likely a 7th. Which will be fine for the pens. His buyout is only 600,000 so the pens would buy him out before paying assets to get rid of him.

Usually salary cap floors teams are extremely frugal so taking on a 4.1M cap hit for 5.25M actual dollars would be a head scratcher. I’m sure someone will take a flier on him but they’re not going to pay anything more than a late round pick for him as they know teams are in a cap crunch and have no leverage.

You also have to consider with 1 year left on his contract and Detroit being as bad as they are he won't sign in Detroit. So that makes him a rental and non playoff teams do usually take on rentals.

I think the idea would be that they could put him in a 2nd line role, hope he does well and flip him for a better pick come trade deadline.

Flipping a player because he didn't work out isn't a selling point. Flipping players its like offer sheeting players on this site it may sound good but it just doesn't happen all that much. If you think he do well on the second line so add in a conditional pick. If he resigns and he is in Detroit's top 6 scoring forwards only. The 6th stays a 6th if not the 6th becomes a 2nd.

Oh I don’t disagree with you there on flipping players is silly most times. Honestly if the pens trade Bjugstad, it will probably be to a team like colorado. A contender with a lot of cap space that can take on his contract with a low risk/high reward process. But the pens will only get a 6th at best. And they should be happy with that. If the pens have to pay or would have to chance paying to get rid of him, they’d be better off just buying him out. It’s not worth giving up a 2nd for a buyout that’s only 600k then 1.7 mil the following year.

You got my point that. A lot of people here just throw their older players and assume that they are better than what Detroit already has. Honestly most of them don't read the explanation because they are right and every one else is wrong or their players are better than everyone else's. That gets old really fast. Detroit will be better not a whole lot but better still. So a player who has only 1 year left on his contract and will be a UFA just doesn't have much value from the Wing's pov. Even if that player puts up 10-20 goals or 20-30 points but is going to leave at the end of the season how does that help Detroit? By flipping him but there is no guarantee anyone will want said player or the return will make it worth while for Detroit. Now because of COVID-19 and the amount the league and individual teams lost you have to factor in the flat cap and there probably won't be a significant cap increase until the 2022-23 season when the new tv deal is in place. At least one good thing came out of all this is we won't see a lockout for the next 5 years.
