Contenders

Created by: NicP13
Team: 2020-21 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 11, 2020
Published: Aug. 11, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
They keep the pick and draft the best player available regardless of LW depth.

Lundqvist retires. Georgiev is signed for 3 years as a backup (I personally don't think he has what it takes to be a starter somewhere else)

St-Louis won't be able to sign Pietrangelo AND Dunn. They will keep their captain and add a young roster in need of a fresh start in Lias Andersson and Brandon Smith add D depth at a lower cost than Dunn.

Strome, Lemieux and DeAngelo are all resigned. Dunn signs and join one of the best young D core in the league

That team is a contender for awhile.

I reckon the Blues would let Petro walk before having to give up Dunn for a package like that and tbh, I might choose his next 8 years over Petros and let AP walk.

I keep hearing "the Blues can't keep Petro AND Dunn" and I gotta say, I completely disagree. It's been proven 100x in these armchair mocks that it could happen - if the Blues buy out Steen and move two of Bozak, Allen, Perron, Schwartz. If we did have to choose between Petro's monster contract vs Dunn's affordable prime years, I don't think Petro is the correct answer.

There is a line to be drawn for guys that the Blues wouldn't move to keep Petro and I think Dunn is on the 'safe' list.

This offer is hot garbage btw, not even close IMO.

Seconding what others have said, but also- If we are trading Dunn to find the space to keep Pietrangelo, why are we taking back cap? Even retained Smith takes up all of our remaining cap space. If we still have to trade two guys to keep Pietrangelo trading Dunn accomplishes nothing.

This is a long-term cap nightmare
