Kreider or Hall to Colorado

Created by: Shakabakes
Team: 2019-20 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 13, 2020
Published: Aug. 13, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I included one of the more basic Kreider trades on here, just for the Hell of it. But more interested in hearing from Avs fans about which option they would prefer.

On the one hand, you can give up a good Pick and a decent Prospect to get a LW on a relatively friendly deal.

On the other hand, you can use your Cap room to go out and get Taylor Hall, who would probably be interested in joining a contender.

Hall is definitely the better Offensive player of the 2. But, obviously would come with a much heftier price tag.

Which is the more beneficial preference? A good, cheaper player that requires giving up pieces for. Or a better, but far more expensive Free Agent, that wouldn't require dipping into your Prospect pool.

Blueshirts should’ve traded Kreider while they still could instead of locking him up until he’s 36.

Agreed. I didn't think it was terrible, but I thought future pieces would have been better. And now that we have landed the #1 Pick, it just makes it more complicated.

I’d rather have Hall over Kreider personally.

I understand they will need to pay Hall 1.5-2mil more, but they will get to keep their 1st rd pick which is worth more than 2 mil

Hall is my preferred option. He's a great fit for the Avs in terms of style and is a couple years younger. Add that Colorado keeps all their picks/prospects and it's an easy choice for me (assuming Hall is reasonable with his ask).

If CK signed a 4 year NMC as part of a 7 year deal and was traded before it kicked in that following off season, it can look so bad for future players to want to extend or sign here. Feel like CK would HAVE to be spoken to before anything occurs.

sure but the alternative is keeping panarin, kreider, and laf for 4 years. the rangers can be forgiven in these circumstances

They could have traded him while his value was still high, was what I meant.

Avs aren't going to into cap hell next season by signing Hall or trading for Kreider.

I don't think either one puts them into Cap Hell. They have the space. The perfect way to handle Free Agency is to build off your youth as a base, and then use Free Agency to quickly patch up the remaining holes. A premier LW would do just that.

Every team goes into some sort of "Cap Hell" at some point. The best time to do so is when your competive window is open.

Hall looked really good against Nashville and again today in Game 2. Guy is buzzing in the Ozone and making plays constantly. He'd be a perfect fit on this team.

That said, term and AAV will obviously be the deciding factor.

I would expect him to be in the 7 year range for $80M. Maybe the flat cap helps the Avs bring him down a bit, but not by much.

You really think he's going to be in the $11.5m range? That's Panarin money, and Panarin doesn't have anywhere near the injury issue Hall has. Panarin also signed before the flat cap.

Maybe he'd get that AAV on a 3-4 year deal, but not on a 7 year deal.

I was under the assumption he would cash in. So for 7 years, you think he would be closer to $9M. Because that would definitely make him more appealing than Kreider.

Not sure where you're getting the $80m figure from in your earlier post if you think he'll look for 7x $9m.

$9m x 7 years = $63m.

Yeah, I know. I was initially thinking he could get close to Panarin money, which is where the $80M came from.

Now that you're saying you believe he is worth much less than, I backtracked to ask if you if you thought he was closer to $9M (just realized I didn't put a question mark there) which would be the $63M.

You're actually not wrong to be fair, as he probably can get $9m+ from teams. Offers like that probably won't be forthcoming from contenders like Boston or Colorado though, so the question for him will be if he takes $9m+ to play on a lesser team, or if he takes $1m (or more) less AAV in order to play on a contender.
