I can't come up with one logical/rational reason to sign JT... you've got a ridiculous F core forming but you have major issues at defense... what do you do? ADD A TOP LINE FORWARD WITHOUT ADDING ANYTHING TO THE D-CORE!!

Because before adding to the offense, the defense needed to be fixed, which Dubas almost hasn't done since his hiring

I’m not saying Dubas is a good Gm (he’s crap actually), but signing Tavares was not one of his mistakes.

Only thing im gonna give Lou credit for he signed Kadri, Anderson, Rielly, and Hyman to good contracts that where the good ends. His draftings other than Nylander, Marner, and Matthews were bad. He thought Woll was going to be a better goalie than Hart facepalm. He was more willing to work on a project in Korshkov than a small steal in Debrincat who if Dubas was gm was the kind of player he likes. He signed Marleau and Zaitsev who dubas had to pay other teams to get rid of, and worst of all the pick we traded to dump marleau became the 13th OA.

In general while Dubas contract negotiations with Matthews and Marner werent great nor was his Kadri trade (which if it wasnt for Babcock probs would have worked much better) he is still a much better gm for us than Lou was. Heck if Lou was still gm he would have probs signed Tavares anyways as when he went to the Islanders that was his plan anyways

I think TOR should ask Tavares to waive his NMC.
I think they can get two young cheap top 4 defense men for him and have cap space to sign a 3rd one.
He's gonna be 30. 11 mil per for the next long time. He's got a few good years left in him, but he's not what's going to win this team a cup.

Lou joins the NYI, a mess of a team which failed to make the playoffs 2 years in a roll and in which Dubas steals their franchise player, leaving the team for dead...
Lou's NYI not only was better than Dubas Leafs the last 2 seasons in the regular season but also got past the 1st Rd in both playoffs.

Maybe J.T. wasn't the best idea. He seems to prefer playing golf in the spring/summer rather than hockey. Let's name him Captain and remove the true locker room leaders; Marleau, Martin, Komarov, Hainsey and Kadri.
