Smith with his 10 ten trade list can kill any deal to a poor team with cap. Rangers fans seem to have this fascination that NMC Staal and M NTC Smith are gladly going being traded in their last NHL. season to. the Sens.

Beaulieu gets a little more from Winnipeg.

Smith kills all the value of Georgiev. Alone he's a late 2nd. With Smith maybe Winnipeg's 3rd this year with Buffalo's 2021 3rd coming back.

Cap is king. And it'll be costly...

He submits it when he signed the contract, he doesn't change it anytime he feels like it. You think all 7 Canadian teams are on his list? Staal has a NMC which means he can't go to the minors...

A player with a no-trade clause (NTC) or no-movement clause (NMC - cannot be placed on waivers or sent to minors) must accept a move by waiving his clause in order to be traded. This list has been compiled from various sources, including NHL documents, internal sources and other media outlets.

No way TDA signs for that money. He wants Trouba $$. I can see Strome signing a 1x5-6 mil bridge deal until cap frees up next year. Think that the Rangers can get more for Georgiev as well.

I think Smith would gladly accept a trade to any team where he thinks he can get playing time...he's playing for another contract

Different story about Staal...I think he would accept retiring after next year. His family is settled in and I don't think he'd be willing to upset that unless there is another payday on the horizon- which he most likely realizes isn't happening.

Back to Smith: ironically the best opportunity to play might just be with the Rangers. 2 LD spots are up for grabs...and there are several real good prospects who project there in the future- but are probably not yet ready.

NMC means he can't be traded, waived or sent to the minors without his approval. Option for the team is buyout
NTC means he can't be traded, but he can be waived, and sent to the minors. It isn't that I think Smith won't go to a Canadian team, but when he compiles his M NTC list which is usually upgraded annually, he could choose to bar a traded to a poor team, and teams with cap, so the likelihood no team would trade for him without sending cap back to the Rangers, which defeats the purpose of the trade for the Rangers.

If you are Smith and the Rangers are telling you there are gonna put you in Hartford and kill any chance of your career continuing or you can go to Ottawa for the last year on your deal and have a shot of playing 2nd pair minutes in a contract year to keep your career going, you are probably waiving and going anywhere.

Doesn't help the Rangers cap...maybe just 100,000 be putting him in the minors. You really think Smith is going to offered a contract anyway for 2021/22/
Yea Smith might go to Ottawa but certainly the Rangers aren't getting anywhere close to a 2nd rounder for him (and Georgiev)

I dont think the Rangers are in cap hell though. Next season isnt like some huge, go for it year, they have the time horizon of Smith, Staal and Hank all on expiring deals plus the 5m in dead money shatty savings. If they can get Smith off the books great, but they can still sign 2/3 of the RFA's and flip one or two if need be without a gun to their head.

I mean if Smith has a good rebound season, i can easily see him getting a 1/2 year chance deal as the Expansion draft adds 23 more NHL roster spots to the league at like 1.5/2m. Gms love that tough grit game he plays and love hockey families. Just look at how many chances the staal brothers and the strome brothers have all gotten. When he is motivated, he isnt that bad, he just isnt a 4.35m player.
