Think that's an overpayment for Strome (4m a year). But you're right Strome for Rieder might be a fit for both teams.

Probably - in this case, more dollars for less-term...

It's not a bad idea. The Coyotes reeeeeally need someone at 2C that's got NHL experience and is better than Vermette (Richardson ain't gonna cut it, and neither is White), and Strome the Elder would fit the bill. However, where does that put Strome the Younger down the road, once he's ready to make the jump to the NHL? If the Coyotes plan to play the Strome brothers and MacInnis at C, then Hanzal probably has to leave to open up spots on the roster. As for Rieder, he'd be an effective middle-6 winger for the Islanders and a general upgrade over Kulemin, although you'd have to figure out what to do with Kulemin (buy him out, throw him into the trade, or whatever). As palhal said, that's a lot for Strome the Elder, especially considering his sophomore slump. $2M - $2.5M is likely a more appropriate estimate.

As for roster composition, no real need to sign Fleischmann; Domi and Duclair would suffice as top-6 LWs. As I stated above, I would make a trade for Strome the Elder to play him at C, as he didn't do very well at RW last season with the Islanders. This would also give Strome the Younger more time to develop.

Great feedback!

RE: Hanzal - pending-UFA, so there will be room next season...
RE: Fleischmann - pending-UFA (on the 1st-line, he will stock should be more valuable at the trade deadline)...
RE: Strome, R.: as of today, McGinn will be Arizona's highest-paid forward at $3.33M next year... and Doan stated he won't return next year... in context, is Strome better than McGinn...?

The plan: Fleischmann surprises and presents an attractive option for playoff teams that cannot afford Hanzal... both return Assets... the younger Strome surprises in his 10-game audition (like Domi and Duclair) and merits a roster-spot alongside his brother...

Pavel Datsyuk is not injured. Acquiring him was a way to help reach the cap floor. His hit will be on the Coyotes books all season. In any event, with over $14M in space, this roster can afford his $7.5M hit.
