Description
Big changes that will never actually happen, but I'd love to see this Flames core drastically changed. Monahan and Gaudreau are not playoff performers and although their talent is unquestionable, isn't the entire point of building a great core to win Cups?

- As noted again below, many will balk at the potential Eichel trade, but I have to think there's at least a slim possibility of that going through, if only due to the fact that Eichel could very well ask to be moved in a season. Money in-out there also adds up fairly well for both sides, with a total swing of approx 3million.

- Lehner signing adds stability not seen since Kipper. Rittich is still very capable and could also become a valuable trade piece during the season/deadline. Just don't think he's a bonafide 1 and Lehner has been excellent the last 2 seasons. Seeing him besides this strong Flames D-core would be fun to watch.

- Depth signings of Edmundson and Larsson are subject to change. Other similar players could replace them or no new D is added if they want to go with 2 young guys in the 5-6 slots.

- Don't love the Flames forward depth here, so maybe there's another F signed and no Edmundson addition. But the Eichel addition cannot be understated.

Overall, these playoffs showcase that the Flames will NOT win with these 2 as their main go-to offensive guys. It's time to hand over the reigns to Tkachuk, elevate Dube and Bennett up the depth chart and add a true superstar in Eichel. A lot of people may say "No chance Buffalo does this" but I truly feel Eichel asks for trade if there is 1 more season of turmoil in Buffalo. A package this big from the Flames has to make them at least think about this.

The picks as desired would be the next 3 firsts for Calgary which they obviously would not do

You won't get Eichel for anything except that, maybe minus a couple +'s

Yeah, Eichel is awesome but he's not even a top 5 center in the league at the moment. He's not going to return two prime aged first line NHL forwards plus more.

Name 5 better centers. Definitively better centers.

    Definitively? lol

    How about arguably?

    McDavid
    Mackinnon
    Matthews
    Crosby
    Malkin
    Barkov

Stamkos and Point are up there too in the neighborhood. Draisaitl.

It could be argued that he isn't even top 10 at the moment. There are a lot of good centers out there.

Eichel ranks 20th among NHL centers for 5 on 5 points per 60 minutes over the last 3 seasons.

But none of that matters anyways, Eichel is not returning two prime aged 1st line NHL forwards plus.

Buffalo declines. If Monahan and Gaudreau don't work, in 2-3 years we'll be left with nothing. Tkachuk would certainly be a more priority option in such a deal, or just a deal with another team for futures or a young center that is already consistently gaining 50+ points per season and is a legiti top 6 center.
