Damn you want to trade Letang but then get Barrie. Defense needed to be better. Trading letang alone makes it worse. But our top pair is completely gone here. Other than that I like the Toronto forwards but and I like Brodin. But we should find another way to add them.

Because Brodin would be coming with an extension (probably 6x6) and he's a better player. Minnesota should either be getting a similar package to Zucker or a 1C/potential 1C

Minnesota is also bringing in a goalie they don't need for about as high of a price as you could ask for (a good 2nd rounder in the 2020 draft) and what's basically a cap dump.

Rather just stick to the Pateryn/Bjugstad move people are making on here

Looking at the leafs deal at face value I immediately said no but I actually kinda like it upgrade the 4th to a 3rd and add in one of McCann or astonreese and I would probably say it's a deal

Yeah solid strategy by the Leafs to shrink their contention window to 2 years or less.

Injury prone 32 year olds for two 23 year olds (one being a star player), what could go wrong?

Cherry on top - the Leafs add cap in the process!

Cool dude, what window are you talking about because with Nylander and Kap we don't have a window of contention we have a team that gets to the playoffs and fail... That is not contention that is failed dreams. Bring in one player that is a gritty presence at the net and still can put up decent points at 2.9 mill less than Nylander and not to mention Letang is a RHD filling a need. And they both bring lots of cup experience so yeah I'm willing to sacrifice Nylander and KK for Letang hornqvist retained another roster player and a top 15 pick this year

By your logic here we should also be looking at Matthews for Doughty, as Leafs have not done anything with Matthews and Doughty has proven he can do it in the playoffs! and he'd fill a need.

I like both players, but it's ridiculous to move core 23 yo pieces (Nylander) for guys that age, with that injury history.

By my logic I'm saying I'd rather move Nylander than Marner or Matthews and I think it's a fair return when the 1st is added.

I mean sure I'd rather move Nylander for a fabbro or Andersson but those young stud d men aren't coming available anytime soon with a first for Nylander. Look at our pool of picks and prospects. Minus sandin and Robertson we probably have one of the worst prospect pools in the league and to be realistic we will need good prospects for filling in the edges once other players price themselves out.

Yes the age sucks I don't disagree but both players probably have another 3-4 good years and both contracts expire by the time nylanders deal does and by that point he's priced himself out of our team.

Personally I'd move Marner before Nylander. Nylander has a chance to outplay his contract. Marner has to be one of the top 10 players in the league annually in order to outplay his contract.

I doubt either moves though.

Very few players are still effective past the age of 33/34, especially those that are as injury prone as these two.

I'm not real worried about Leafs prospect pools. They have their core locked up for the immediate future, with Robertson, Sandin, Liljegren, etc. on the way to help. Leafs have proven their player development (Engvall, Moore, etc) is effective as well they've proven pretty solid at identify overseas talent.

Grabbing Letang and Hornqvist to gear up for immediate success and also a 1st is really counter-intuitive. No point in going veteran heavy, and take a first on top just to equal out value.

If Nylander is moved, it's for a top 4 dman under the age of 28. If that isn't available, then he's not moved.
