Trading Liljegren and not getting a RD back, Anaheim and Toronto reject the trade, and thats a lot to give up in the LA trade for a middle six winger and a dman that's played 1 season

Well technically I brought in Manson.. you gotta look at it as a off-season as a whole. I see kapanen and kempe as similar value. Kapanen might have more skill offensively but kempe is versatile and plays a better defensive game. I also like the physical factor he would bring to the game over kapanen. Why not the Anaheim trade? Anaheim is a rebuilding team who's trying to get younger.. willy will bring them 3 extra years of good hockey. Rakell and Manson aren't going to do anything for the ducks in the next 2 years. They'll bring something to the leafs because they're trying to win now

Kings aren't trading Kempe.

These all are overpays for the Leafs and I think you can accomplish what your are wanting too without doing so.

That Jackets trade is problematic for both teams. The Leafs can't trade someone like Liljegren without getting the RD they need back, and the Jackets can't trade someone like Jenner without getting the C we need back. (Well, that and we're still not interested in doing a winger swap for Andy.)
