I can get on board with that logic. I think Monahan is the better player slightly but both are about as equal value as you could get. It’s like comparing a meter to a yard.

They're both good id take either one of them

Woof hot take alert. Nylander and Monahan are both equal talent. ACTUALLY nylander makes more and Monahan recently had an 80+ point season nylander never had more than 70. So solid hot take lol

Be that as it may, Monahan hasn't been able to win anything and he has 3 years left. For that needs of the Leafs Nylander fits better, he's faster and looks like he could still have a lot more growth in him.

its interesting but leafs need a defenseman rather than another center

that said a trade where Hanafin + Mangiapane + Benett could be worked on for Nylander and other stuff

but if Dubas decided to do this one question can Monohan pk

no. he very much cant. his defense sucks

Toronto was 21/31 teams on pk%. That’s pretty terrible so idk if you had a point or whatever.

its not that his defensive game isnt good. Hes a complete liability. Like a bottom 10 in the entire NHL. Yea hes great offensively, but defense is something that needs to start at the top of the lineup, and it trickles down the lineup

Idk if he’s a complete liability or if it’s just the style he is forced to play to generate points. That’s Problem with advanced stats. I think people put way too stock into them. I don’t think they are useless but I also think you can learn more by watching him play. It sounds dumb but when I I’m curious if a player is good at defense I look at +/- to start. Sound dumb but stay with me. Generally if a player is a - they are very poor defensively. There are some rare occasions but more than likely if you are a - you aren’t good In Your own end. Draisaitl Scored 110 point and was a -7 that to me tell me he’s pretty awful defensively without really needing to lol I to it. Lazy but kind of effective.

Winning is really hard. Tbh it’s more luck than skill. To be honest it’s a lot of luck mixed with overall team strategy. You can have all the talent in the world but lose to a team that buys into the same strategy.

Think it was just a genuine question. Leafs were also 13th on the PK since Keefe took over, so personally I'm not that concerned with it.

I think Matthews should play more pk. He looks like he’s drastically improved his defensive numbers and could do a lot of damage

He did improve defense significantly this season, however I still wouldn't play him on the PK. So long as they have a competent kill, I'd rather use Matthews ice time at 5v5 or on the PP.

Maybe but I think teams would think twice while he out there. Having a skilled goal scorer would be concerning during a pk

And teams need to time to earn the experience needed to get over the top. The Leafs are young and learning.
