I'd pass on this. Isles should make sure their guys are locked up first and get a FA in 3-4 years if applicable

I think Varly trade is ambitious but his value will never be higher after this season. Not sure how tied he has to be for Ilya's comfort but this would let him be 1A even faster.

Definitely ambitious, but I love the idea of capitalizing on his value right now, if it’s the right trade

I still think a little something extra needs to come with the Leddy/Boychuk trade. I don't think first dibs on Leddy is enough for ~3m in cap space in the immediate 2 seasons for a cup contender.

I've proposed the same trade with NJ before and I think it just makes too much sense for both sides! NYI saves the cap space they desperately need and NJ gets 2 Veteran D (which they need as well) to help mentor the younger players. I think a pick still need to come back to NYI though.

Problem with this team as constructed is the offseason. Pelech and Beauvillier will be RFA’s in which they will be due significant raises and Cizikas will be a UFA and the team assuredly is going to want him back. Only Greiss and Greene come off the books in this situation. Not nearly enough cap space to go around.

I think Cizikas has to take a significant paycut to stay. He loves it here, but reality is 4th liner can't make mid $3's. Maybe the flat cap could take a $2m/1 or something so his family stays in comfortable surroundings.

Gotta remember expansion, I know it's not explained here but I anticipate Bailey being selected with Mayfield attached as a sweetener.

Other way to squeeze out more cap is buying someone out or moving a pick to free yourself from Hickey/Leo. I think there are a few way around making this work and keeping the important RFAs

They might have to let cizikas walk, bailey and mayfield will likely both be gone by next offseason.

Varlamov will be traded next offseason.

Thats insane depth but the Islanders won't have cap space in 2-3 years to sign Barzal. Gaudreau, Beauvillier, etc.

Instead of trading for Leddy and Boychuck, would the Islanders be interested in trading Dobson/Bellows along with Boychuck to the Devils for a fourth?

Dobson is untouchable , isles would be open to trading bellows

Not this offseason, I think he would be attached to someone at expansion as a sweetener. I could offer Sebastian Aho? Young LHD, 2x AHL all-star. Smooth skater. Caught in a log jam with NYI. Too many LD ahead of him on the depth chart.

What’s your solution for the long term cap? I’d assume next offseason move bailey for sure, maybe mayfield in the CGY trade, eberle the season after bailey/in a package? Let cal walk and cizikas will demand too much to keep so put koivula at 4C? Hickey will eventually free up another 2ish. Think that’s the only scenario we have that pans out under the assumption we couldn’t move Lee (all in all im completely for it at the expense ofc moving toews in the future potentially too)

I’d move pulock before toews. I hope toews retires an islander.

Would make more sense actually since Dobson would replace him and then bolduc/Wilde replace Dobson role I like it

Beau also untouchable. Having an incredible playoffs, budding star in Trotz's system. I think the deal is very close as structured. If it takes a mid-round pick of low B level prospect to close the deal than sure. But not really open to changing it too drastically
