Not at that cap hit. Poile has said he wants to get younger, so I don't see how Hornqvist fits in with Poile's plans. I know that I don't want to pay Hornqvist $5.3m during his 34, 35, and 36 year old seasons -- he's already slowing down and can't stay healthy, plus his game takes a toll on the body. He can still contribute some, but I really don't get the reasoning behind the deal for NSH.

Doesn’t Nashville need a top 6 RW? Hornqvist will be able to play at that level for at least another season. If he struggles, you can send him to Seattle. It’s basically a no risk move considering what you’re giving up.

I kind of like the Bjugstad to New Jersey trade. Devils give up very little for him so it's a low risk-medium reward situation. If he finds his game again in New Jersey it could help their depth scoring and take pressure off of the young stars there. If it doesn't work out? Then let him walk to FA in a year. Not sure if Devils fans like it but from an outsider I think it's good.

Hornqvist isn't a top 6 player anymore, and $5.3M in cap space for an aging player isn't "no risk". Why would Seattle take him off NSH's hands if he struggles? The Preds will have to expose younger, cheaper players to the expansion draft, like Sissons and Jarnkrok.

Nowhere close to enough for Ottawa to be interested in taking on that Johnson deal. Goaltending isn't enough of a concern for them currently to be taking a hit in a trade for it, and Tierney is worth more than a 2nd on his own as is if the market has anything to say about it.

At the deadline, an expiring and shortly thereafter extended JG Pageau (0.42 career PPG, 0.67 before the trade) got a 1st, 2nd and conditional-on-the-cup 3rd, and Blake Coleman (0.39 career PPG, 0.54 before the trade) with one year remaining got a 1st and a really solid prospect in Nolan Foote. Tierney (0.43 career PPG) is set to play in the Sens top 6 and likely plays with their best players in Tkachuk, Duclair and Connor Brown. When he played 3rd line with Boedker, Balcers and Ryan in 2018-2019, he put up 0.59 PPG. He put up 0.52 PPG this year with a bad team around him. He's right in line with those comparables, so expecting to get him back while dumping Jack Johnson in return and only giving up Murray and a 2nd is not even remotely close to market value. Murray and the 2nd with Johnson for absolutely nothing at all maybe sways a team (not likely the Sens, they don't need goalie that badly like I said) but not when you're getting back an actually good player.

Hornqvist is still a top 6 player, check his stats: https://www.instagram.com/p/CBi5UNEgpwy/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

He was on pace for 25 goals this season which is pretty solid. A specialist on the PP. Has that gritty power forward element.

I agree that he's good on the power play, but I still don't think NSH is interested in a 34 year old Patric "Tomas Holmstrom" Hornqvist. Using those stats to claim his market value is actually $9m+ is a stretch and a half too. If he was making $4m, then I would be much more interested. But as it stands, Nashville should not be investing anymore big money into older players. They are already one of the oldest teams in the league.

Look at the original Neal - Hornqvist trade. Neal was a 40-goal, 80 point player...then he came to NSH and only had 1 30-goal season out of 3 and never hit 60 points. I'd be worried that a 34 year old Hornqvist would decline worse in NSH than a 27 year old James Neal did.

I mean, Neal was never gonna replicate his 40 goal 80 point season cuz he couldn't stay healthy and needed a center of Geno's caliber to help him. He was still on pace for 27-28 goals in his other 2 seasons, which is decent. Personally, I don't have any issues with Hornqvist's play. It's still been great. He just needs to play in the top 6 at all times.
