I’ve had kings fans say that’s a fair trade. They need a stopgap D to play w Doughty. Leddy is perfect for that role for them

Yeah I know I’ve seen it before it was just that all of the other ones are super conservative so this is the only one he could’ve been pointing out

I would rather have bellows and a pick over Aho. Avs will be in a contract count crunch soon and having a guy just kick around in the AHL/maybe 7th dman isnt that tempting

thoughts on Jost for B. Wilde?

I'd argue that he's able to play well because of Trotz's defensive structure. Plus he's more league average than above league average

Mitch korn deserves more credit than trotz system. The isles were average at best defensively this year because of trotz loyalty to Johnny boychuk.

sooo we just gunna ignore the pathetic 79 games 19pts in the AHL the year prior? lol

Honestly I’d say that’s bad, but if knowing how god awful, like absolutely atrocious the isles AHL coach is it’s not that bad. W good development I can see Bellows becoming a 20-20-40 guy

FWIW bellows almost made the team out of camp in 17-18, the coaches literally told bellows to not worry about points, focus on his defensive play. It’s a bizarre way of developing , but context is needed here.

I’d argue he could be a good bottom pairing dman but depending on the pick that might work better for both teams (especially if the avs would be looking more top4 cause aho likely won’t ever be that)

Fair enough, thats your opinon on the proposal. I dont see a Jost trade happening if Bellows is the centrepiece.

I admitted that I dont know much about Bellows but looking at his AHL numbers 22 goals in 52 games is pretty impressive.
the only thing that would worry me about him is it sounds like he is a pretty awful skater from his draft stock. Wonder if he improved, which can be done. Bowers was considered a weak skater and now hes pretty solid

I see your point, but this is also assuming Crawford either retires or goes elsewhere. He's stated he wants to stay in Chicago and is willing to take a discount to make it work, so the Hawks would realistically be able to keep a better goalie, albeit one who is more injury prone, at a more modest cap hit.

im not arguing the fit in chicago, just in general that 5m for Varly is good value
I would hate to play varly 5 times a year. Just in a vacuum his contract and his numbers are good.

Considering hawks didnt want to go long term with Lehner which is why they traded him, 2 years at 5m fits what they were looking for with Lehner who I think according to friedman wanted 2x 6m

a 20-20 guy, which is kinda what COL already has in Jost.. so COL moves a 20-20 guy for Bellows in hopes he becomes the 20-20 guy they just gave up lol

avs have too many Dman right as as it is, with Timmins and byram needing spots. He wouldnt see ice time on the Avs with a healthy line up

Allowing the 3rd fewest shots against per game isn't exactly "average defensively"

the 79 games and 19points in the AHL the previous year should be part of the overall review of Bellows

It’s sounds unbelievable but that’s exactly how Thompson coaches. It’s so dumb he needs to be fired

NHL.com writer reported it on an isles podcast, isles lead writer for the athletic said it, and the actual coach (Brent Thompson) admitted it in an interview.

They allowed a lot more chances from the slot this season after pelech’s injury. Trotz refused to scratch boychuk which had a negative impact on Leddy. They were average in terms of xGA/60. They were an average defensive team without pelech this season because trotz couldn’t adapt to an injury.

Barzal makes that on an 8 year deal. On a 3 year deal he gets 6.5-7.5. I met him in the middle

thats not quite how it works lol.
Id rather keep what he should "become" in Jost, than acquire Bellows and hope he "becomes" Jost lol

this is why you cant boxscore scout, we dont know the context of that year or how they were playing bellows. Maybe it was bad...maybe it was situational and limited minutes as a 20 year old...no clue
Just look internally with Martin Kaut, looking his stats you wouldnt know that the Eagles didnt play him on the PP or that he was getting middle 6 minutes as they played AHL vets on the top line.
Or the KHL, you cant look at that league young players and see oh 7 points in 49 games, tough when they will dress guys and not even play them counting as a game played.

Context is key and we have no clue what was going on with that season. I just am saying on the surface the goal scoring is intersted but his skating is what would make me pause

Jost is not a 20-20 guy....more of 10-20 role player and easily replaceable.

Keifer Bellow is a natural scorer...I'd think 20-25g in 82 game schedule can reasonably be expected.
