Goalies don't hold alot of trade value.

Particularly in a year that several decent goalies are UFAs.

Also keep Dermott and skip Gudas signing. Younger, faster, cheaper, upside, etc.

Calgary doesn't want to trade Bennett for Andersen, why would making it infinitely worse by adding Johnny for a couple 3rd liners change our mind? Especially when, somehow, we end up taking on more cap?!?

Calgary is looking to trade gaudreau and needs a steady goalie, kerfoot and johnsson add depth and johnsson is a 2nd liner over mangiapani

Gaudreau alone wouldn't be traded for that package.

Columbus almost certainly accepts, and asks where they can send you a fruit basket.

Tiny, 210 is tiny now?

And of course moving a guy from in front of the net 5 times a game is much more important them every other aspect of the game on the ice, and asset/cap mgmt.

I have an elderly aunt who is 210. I think you know what I am referring to. Your attitude towards net front defence captures nicely one of the key issues with the way the Leafs have been built...

Wendel Clark was and still is my favourite player of all-time. But I don't buy into the Leafs needing 5 Gudas/Martin types in order to be successful.

They need more Muzzins, I would be thrilled with another Muzzin. But even Dermott is pretty physical and obviously gets under other teams skin. Both those guys are our two best gap control/neutral zone defenders, both can move the puck, Dermott is very mobile, Muzzin is decently mobile - I'd experiment with them as a pain in the ass shutdown pair, rather than discard Dermott for some mid-round pick.

I like Gudas but I think his time in the Top 4 has passed him by, he played 3rd pair sheltered min in Wash. I also really don't think he should pair with Muzzin (if he was signed), as Muzzin should not be the more mobile option on his pairing. That's a recipe for disaster IMO. That's why Holl fit well with Muzzin. Holl is a 5th dman at best, but his strengths compliment Muzzin's few weaknesses quite well.

Like it or not, this team is what it is. High powered offence and they want a mobile defence that can get the puck quickly and put it on our forwards sticks. If they acquire grit and toughness, it will be guys that first and foremost are not liabilities when it comes to skating and moving the puck, as that does not compliment this group, and does not fit in to the Keefe/Dubas style. IMO, the reason pure crease clearers don't make sense for this team is they want to be the best in the league at not being in their own zone. That's why the circle back is so prevalent in their game plan.

If you care to respond, please bring more than "Dermott falls a lot".

I appear to have you all up in your feelings. I don't recall recommending the Leafs acquire Gudas or players without skill. I said what I believe about Dermott. I don't think he is effective defensively, I think his lack of length and size contributes to his issues and I believe he will be lucky to have a long career as a 5-6 D. He consistently needs to contort his body and exert disproportionate effort to do things defensively that come to others much more naturally. One of us will be right. But, all of the other narratives you are projecting on me are misplaced. Find another target for the stereotypes...

So does these size and "contorting" issues effect Dermott and only Dermott, or anyone 5ft 11 210 lbs and under??

Can't say I've spent as much time as you watching dmen contort and exert themselves defensively as you (not sure I even fully known what the hell you mean).

Also, IMO considering Dermott has been a very solid 3rd pair dman at age 22 & 23 hes got top 4 potential.
