I have an elderly aunt who is 210. I think you know what I am referring to. Your attitude towards net front defence captures nicely one of the key issues with the way the Leafs have been built...
Wendel Clark was and still is my favourite player of all-time. But I don't buy into the Leafs needing 5 Gudas/Martin types in order to be successful.
They need more Muzzins, I would be thrilled with another Muzzin. But even Dermott is pretty physical and obviously gets under other teams skin. Both those guys are our two best gap control/neutral zone defenders, both can move the puck, Dermott is very mobile, Muzzin is decently mobile - I'd experiment with them as a pain in the ass shutdown pair, rather than discard Dermott for some mid-round pick.
I like Gudas but I think his time in the Top 4 has passed him by, he played 3rd pair sheltered min in Wash. I also really don't think he should pair with Muzzin (if he was signed), as Muzzin should not be the more mobile option on his pairing. That's a recipe for disaster IMO. That's why Holl fit well with Muzzin. Holl is a 5th dman at best, but his strengths compliment Muzzin's few weaknesses quite well.
Like it or not, this team is what it is. High powered offence and they want a mobile defence that can get the puck quickly and put it on our forwards sticks. If they acquire grit and toughness, it will be guys that first and foremost are not liabilities when it comes to skating and moving the puck, as that does not compliment this group, and does not fit in to the Keefe/Dubas style. IMO, the reason pure crease clearers don't make sense for this team is they want to be the best in the league at not being in their own zone. That's why the circle back is so prevalent in their game plan.
