Marino doesn't go anywhere unless a superstar comes back at this point..
He is already being named Letang's heir. He takes over some PP abd PK duty already. He made guys like JJ look like above average NHL dmen early in the season. The guy is IT for the Pens.
He isn't going to score 30 goals, but he does all of the little things right. He has a good shot from the point, not fantastic, and he has a knack for making the right play in the offensive zone. Knows when to pinch, when to dump, when to pass, etc.
Most of all, in the end of the Crosby, Malkin era, he is cost-controlled and likely will be for the next 5 years or so. Can't put a value that accurately displays that. Like the Preds having Josi in his prime at 4 million for half a decade.
So yeah, bottom line and pairing guys will never net Marino.
