Can Thomas Hickey still play? Does he have any skill? Does he have any value? Don’t follow NYI, so I’m curious.

yes, he's a solid 3rd pairing D. Good skater and puck mover.

He suffered an injury last season, Devon toews was called up and played extremely well,, so hickey became 7D. He was sent to the AHL after training camp because Noah Dobson made the team. Hickey is just a victim of the depth isles have on D.

I believe he could still play on a bottom pairing or as a 7th dman but he's just stuck behind too many dmen on the depth chart

He is a 6/7th guy. He does have a clutch gene though, especially for a defenseman. Scores in big playoff moments

Late to the party, but I loved Hickey last season. Toews stole his job in December of 18 and Hickey hasn't found his way into the lineup consistently since (except for Round 2 against Carolina, but we don't talk about that....)

Got sent to the AHL, played a bit and got hurt again. I have no idea what his status is right now -- he's in the bubble so I imagine he could play if necessary. Before he got hurt in 2018, he was playing solid shutdown defense but all of his offense seems to have dried up. I'd say he's a number 5/6 at best and when healthy. Probably closer to a 7th d-man realistically and after all the injuries. Consensus on CF is that it will probably cost the Islanders a 3rd round pick to move him.
