I've floated around similar deals with this retention on Turris and the majority of people, including BUF fans, tend to accept Turris at that low of a cap hit. Not everyone is cool with it, but I think it works for both teams. I normally add a 2nd + 3rd on the NSH side, but added Jarnkrok this time.

LEAFS are not going to trade one of the 4 unless there is a top tier RD coming back!!!! How hard is that for people to understand???

Sure. Just felt I'd go a different direction with this. Sissons would be the exact player they need for their bottom 6, and Ekholm is a 40 point defenseman who has shown that he can play the right side. But I get it.

I mean, he's a 40-point, shut-down defenseman that has shown he can play the right side - but is historically a LD. Just throwing something out there, but I get it.

Interesting. I like Turris but we aren't in a position to bank on him. If he spoils it'll hurt us bad. We just can't afford it in our position. Jarnkrok is sick. Would you consider something like this?

Buffalo Sabres
- Kyle Turris ($1.75M Retained)
- Calle Jarnkrok
- Eeli Tolvanen
- 2020 2nd-round pick (NJD)
Nashville Predators
- Tage Thompson
- Colin Miller
- Casey Mittelstadt

the value is pretty equal, but he had a great year with the sens and they're keen on resigning him long term. if the preds are serious about getting brown they'll have to give up more to make it worth the sens time to trade him.

It's not a bad offer, but I think Poile really wants to try out Tolvanen this year. In any Turris trade, I can't see Poile retaining salary, giving up a good pick, and giving up a top prospect. However, in this case it's a prospect swap Tolvanen - Mittlestadt, so I wonder if that would change Poile's mind. It's an interesting offer, but I don't know if NSH would want to lose Tolvanen. You could probably remove Mittlestadt and Tolvanen and I think it'd be closer for Poile. But who knows!

If Ottawa can't get a 1st+ for Brown (which they probably can't) I think it makes more sense to keep him. He's a great 2nd/3rd line guy, but more importantly he's a very key veteran leader for a young team in need of leadership.

I would say that is significant salary retention -- nearly 1/3 of his contract. Turris at around $4m is good value considering he was on pace for 41 points playing with mostly 4th liners like Sissons and Watson. Give him some actual offensive teammates and he should be able to get 50+ points.

I don't think Turris is in decline as much as others think. Last season, he got injured and had a poor season because of it. This past season, NSH signed Duchene and Lavy put him in the doghouse. Once Lavy was canned, Hynes put him with Duchene and Granlund and he immediately started looking more dangerous and a different player. So now that he'll be healthy and potentially getting better linemates next season, I think he's primed for a bounce-back season. Having said that, it is definitely still a risk - but I think that, with that retention, it is fair. But I won't be able to convince everyone lol
