When did he say he's not moving McCann? Report this week is that they are shopping him.

Friedman says Dubas is not interested in Murray due to the rich arbitration rights September 1st. Also noted if Dubas wanted Murray he would have accepted the original proposed deal of Kap for Murray in a 1 for 1. Dreiger the next day says Dubas is ready to grab Murray. Are we in Bizarro world wtf is going on lul.

Based on what I have seen I got to go with Friedman on this one. If Dubas wanted Murray he would have traded Kapenan for him during the last trade.

Murray, McCann for Johnsson, Dermott, 2nd

Toronto is getting the best two players in the trade. A single 2nd does not cover the gap.

On MM show interview...
He said "we need more guys like McCann who are young NHLers just coming into his prime" Then said - Now we need to get him to agree to a fair contract but him being a RFA shouldnt be a problem.
He then said - Look at the playoffs - it all 22-25 yr olds making an impact.
He said Id like to add another McCann / Kappy type player, if possible via a trade

Yeah but wasn't that like 2 weeks ago? The reports of him being shopped (on 31 thoughts) is a bit more recent.

Kapanen and McCann are kinda similar actually. Tons of physical ability but they aren't quite living up to it. Same age and draft year and first round too. Similar offensive numbers this year. McCann was much better defensively and analytically though.

It was last Friday, He obviously wants to get younger & said it again yesterday.
Trading McCann, our only young NHLer other than Kappy now would be go against what he said & would be dumb on this old team.

Now if he traded McCann for another 23 or younger player, maybe? But doubt it.

** We must stop going after wingers that are 28+ !!!!

Almost all NHL players struggle or have up & down yrs in NHL in their 21-23 yr old yrs (except those special few)

- And then break-out in their 23-24-25 yr old yrs, especially players picked after mid 1st Rd

And why I would not & we will regret trading McCann

I was just poking fun at some of the rumours with this AGM, but you’re right. Trading a guy like McCann at his age and potential is only worth it if the return is an overpayment. Which the above trade is not. The value is about what Murray or McCann would garner individually at best. Also, Johnsson is a dime a dozen winger on Pitts. He’s really not needed there.

I have watched McCann since JRs & was so excited when we got him, but now everyone wants to trade him bc he struggled at end of yr....
But most Pittsburgh fans dont understand that most NHLers take a lil bit of time to become a good NHLer... & it drives me NUTS!!

I will strait go homicidal if we move him bc Id bet my left ball that he is scoring 20-30 goals per yr maybe next yr but def soon.
