Why do Detroit fans think everyone is a cap dump. Like as if guys like JVR/Niederreiter or Gardiner/Ghost wouldn’t be upgrades over what u have

If you want to move Gardiner's K, you probably have a better suitor in NJD. They have a need for a LHD and have the cap space. You'll probably need to give some type of future asset (or retain salary) as well, but CAR has the 2nd round picks to play with and I'm certain NJD would LOVE to brag to NYR fans that they have their pick.

Also, Raanta will be a UFA in one year. This doesn't solve CAR's goalie issue, just kinda moves the pieces around (Mrazek and Reimer are UFA in one year too). They could use a younger, cheaper, just as good (or better) player in Georgiev, Jarry, or Samsonov who will all be cheaper than Foegele and a 3rd.

I also don't think that adding Chiasson helps negate the loss of Foegele. Foegele a BIG part of that 3rd line and is a + player with 30+ point potential and a lot of growth potential. Chiasson is an older, career - player, with low upside.

I think you're close, but this misses the mark by a bit. Let me know what you think though.

I think it has more to do with the situation that the Red Wings are currently in then the players involved. For the wings any deal that only addresses short term "needs" is counter productive, so if there isnt a longer term asset coming back it make little to no sense. In this case Gardiner is a productive player of sorts and certainly has value, but not to the Red Wings. For the wings to justify taking back longer term contract there has to be more coming with it, since improving the wings in short term means nothing but lower draft position. Hell if you are going to take on Gardiner for the next 3 years just take on Seabrook from Chi for better assets for 4.

Fans of other teams have to realize the wings intend to do a slow rebuild, shown by Yzerman's comments. In other words think of what the wings actually want before simply dumping players you dont want on them. And to be fair wings fans have made some ridiculous claims on here as well, but in truth bias is always present for fans of any team.

DET has made some very poor signings and their fanbase is trying to deal with it. This makes ANY move a future money move for them. They NEED someone to take Nielsen/Abdelkader/Helm/Filppula (who are ALL immovable), but aren't willing to part with Larkin or Mantha (the only pieces other teams want). DET needs a 2/3C, a 1/2/3RW, a 2/3LW, every single D position, and any G that can wear pads. Give them some slack, they are in a rough spot.
