I think the most I would give up for Johansen is a 4th. I know he's a former 1st rounder, but he has not looked good in the AHL and really seems to be puttering out. I'd be open to giving him a shot because NSH's D depth could use some bodies, but I don't have high hopes for him unfortunately.

Thanks. He was great as an AHL rookie. He's had a couple of injuries since then, and I agree his development might have taken a hit, but it's so hard to tell because when he came back last year he got so little ice time.

The Caps have drafted three more LHD in the top two rounds who have panned out, since drafting Johansen (Siegenthaler and Fehervary have already played in the NHL, and Alexeyev will soon) and signed a great college UFA at the same spot who just might be NHL-ready (Nardella).

That said, with expansion coming up, the Caps are better off keeping an absurd amount of prospect depth on the blue line, rather than adding a 4th round pick. To move Johansen right now, I think it takes a late 2nd or a high 3rd. Nashville has a high 3rd, at 71st overall, and, with Johansen's brother at center and not a ton of LHD depth, seems like a place where if his health is 100% Johansen might play a few NHL games this year, and get his development back on track.

A Montreal fan on here said Johansen is currently worth just a 3rd or a 4th, so even though the stakes are low, there exists the possibility of a bidding war. I see Johansen being happy playing with family in Nashville, so I've floated the possibility a couple of ways.

Other Caps fans want to swap him to Dallas for a recent 1st pick RHD who doesn't seem to have an immediate spot there, which is fine, too. If the return is a 4th, I think the Caps sign him for a couple more years, bring him to camp, and hope he can outplay an AHL veteran for a top four spot in Hershey this year, and get his development back on track. Since Alexeyev, Orlov, and Johansen can play either side of the ice, having a lot of LHD is not a problem. But in this build I signed four cheap NHL-veteran UFAs to Hershey, so I'd worry about Johansen getting a sweater. At that point, a high third gets it done in a rush.

Nice try. Miller is much more of a cap dump, so a Sabres fan posted this idea yesterday, and I'm trying to work out how the Caps could afford to accept it while still making some good changes to their lineup this summer.

Panik had twice as many points last year as Miller, plays better defense, and was not a healthy scratch. Three years at 2.75M is just 750k more than two years at 3.75, and the Sabres pocket $1M of immediate cap space to try to add a 2C and make the playoffs. So, yeah, their idea. I don't know whether they're all on board, but thanks for playing.

We'll trade him elsewhere. For real assets. Panik doesn't nothing for us.

Why would NYR trade for Dillon’s UFA rights?

NSH, MTL, Buf, and NYR fans are all seeking immediate help at LHD. That can be with any one of them. If a 7th is too much, maybe just a B prospect they don't need, preferably at RHD, but forward is fine, too.



Prefer Hagelin? They're interchangeable speedsters, great on penalty kill, same contract, both play either wing, and neither scored as many goals last year as their third line predecessors, Burakovsky and Connolly. I don't see why anyone should have expected them to, and they are a lot better defensively than Burakovsky or Connolly, so the team's record improved, and they're both welcome to stick around, but fans like change, and if Buffalo wants to move on from Miller after he had 11 points last season and didn't play much defense, the Caps' lack of depth at RHD could almost provide a fit, if Montour and Ristolainen are less available.

We have so many bottom 6 forwards. I'd rather take a 2021 2nd and a 2022 5th and use that cap space to sign someone better.

So would 30 other teams, though. The cap is not going up. The economy is flat. Ratings are down. There is a pandemic.

Teams with buyer's remorse have to work together to give guys a mutual change of scenes. The irony is that Hagelin and Panik played great defense and chipped in a few points, and the Caps won their division. There is no reason the Caps should be trying to get rid of them, except that the team didn't win in the playoffs and some fans might expect some sort of a change. Colin Miller, when he isn't scoring points, plays like wet garbage. He is barely an NHLer. But there's less term left on his contract than on either of the good wings the Caps might be shopping.

Edited to add: Girgensons and Larsson are hitting UFA this summer. They're as good defensively as Panik and Hagelin, but they don't score as many points. Upgrading one or the other could be just fine.

What team is giving up a 2nd and 5th for Miller? J.w. Panik is a cap dump? his defensive numbers are fantastic and in the last 2 seasons.. 134 games played 55 points (34p/82 pace).... thats exactly what you want from a 3rd line players..... Paniks numbers 2nd half if this year were also much much better. to say hes a cap dump is idiotic. I'd say the offensive defenseman that only has 8 5v5 points and is a -9.... ALSO being paid 3.875 m is more of a "cap dump" terrible terrible take.. i can get onboard with a offensive Dman having bad defensive numbers but having terrible numbers all around is not good. so rethink what player is the cap dump and WTF is giving you a 2nd and a 5th for him

how many Sabre are + this year? maybe adding a bottom 6 guy that can keep the puck out of the net would be a smart move? +/- isnt a great sta but generally speaking its a great tool to figure out if you need to go to advance stats more more info..... most of the time -9 players suck at defense.....
