Doesn't mean it will. That leaves a hole at LW2, unless Bjork can play there. And wonder what CGY think of this

CGY declines hard, they paid a high price to get Hanifin(Dougie) and DeBrusk just isn’t there, especially in need of a new contract.

So Grzelcyk lost at expansion draft? Hanifin is good but hasn't played like a top5 pick yet.

well if you see, I didn't say it would be one for one, I could see bruins adding a prospect and mid round pick for hanifin and a late round pick

Tbh there is no way they can improve the left side on de this offseason, and not lose grzelcyk in the expansion draft. No real second pair guy is going to sign a one or two year deal.

I mean Labanc signed a one-year deal last year with SJ to help them and he's 2nd liner. It's rare but not impossible. And if Grzelcyk feels like he can get more next year after playing a year with a top4 role...

Unless you sign a guy who're okay to expose next year and protect 73-25-48.

It’s just speculation. No teeth to it yet. It’s an obvious target and i’d prefer him to the EDM d men but i’m not sure it benefits Calgary. They lose a couple of d men to FA not sure they can afford to part with him. Valimaki can step in for him and maybe they re-sign Brodie i guess they could make it work.

I’ve played around with it before, the pieces are there to make it work. It’s a fit. Just a matter of desire on both teams. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Would have to be Debrusk + picks or A/B prospects.

Hanifin is 21, signed a lengthy cost controlled contract.
Debrusk needs a new contract next year, and likely will be 6M+ with term

Given what the Flames paid to get Hanifin its a start, but not there yet.
Downside is Debrusk is a LHS which Flames have an abundance of.

100% agree, I think it all depends on how much of increased roles CGY wants to give valimaki, Anderson, and kylington. If they trust those guys to really step up, the I think they could feel comfortable moving hanifin at the right price and resigning brodie or hamonic and maybe any other FA defenseman. Possibly even using pieces like bennet, dube or mangiapagne to acquire other dman.

I think the reason the bruins would be open to moving debrusk is because he has solid value, and they are not willing to pay him a lot of money, which Debrusk couple be demanding. By getting debrusk, that gives them options to move out other left shots.

It would certainly help if DeBrusk was a RHS - they are overloaded with left wingers and LHS Wingers....

Flames already have Dube, Mangiapane, and sometimes Bennett playing on the right side as LHS. I like DeBrusk a lot and I believe Hanifin is available, but the Flames need Right wingers and possibly a top 6 center bad.

Would Boston fans rather explore this as an option or nurse?

Would rather keep Hanifin. No interest in another left handed winger about to ask for a raise. NH is locked up kn a good deal and hasnt even entered his prime yet. He is a legitimate top 4 (#2) guy as well a core piece to the flames future. With Gio aging it makes little to no sense to move him, especially for a player already in a position of strength.

Lindholm has been the far better player from that trade

Why? Just wondering because if look at advance stats I’m not certain he’s even on the same tier of player as nurse. Between the two perhaps some bias opinion is involved but not sure it’s really even close.

Sounds like a deal Calgary would make if theyre moving Johnny hockey and trying to replace a little of his offense.

I think its a combination of a few things,
A. Hanifin is from Boston and when they bring in hometown guys it can go one of two ways, it works really well or goes poorly and I think they see this going well.
B. He is signed longer and for cheaper than Nurse who is going to demand a lot of money on his next contract
C. He is younger than Nurse.
