Has GMBM or anyone ever openly said why we don't draft, sign, or trade for Russians? Last one I can remember was Bryz...

I have no idea. No one has ever said why. I don’t remember the last time Murray traded, signed, or drafted a Russian.

He also would’ve drafted Podkolzin over Zegras

Podkolzin was the 3rd best prospect in mocks. He fell like Forsberg did

Some GMs don’t like to draft them with the risk of trying to get them over and sign their ELC. Kaprizov is a good example, 5 years later finally signs.

I think you overrate this Russian thing. He tends to stay away from them in the draft I think mainly because they tend to stay in Russia longer than others.

I also think your forgetting something pretty major with that WSH trade. Zero chance Hathaway is accepted in the locker room after spitting and then acting like he deserved to choose when he had to stand up for his actions.

Anaheim drafted seven Russian guys in three years from 1999 until 2001. Only Bryzgalov really panned out.

SInce then I only notice one in the 3rd round of 2009? https://www.hockey-reference.com/teams/ANA/draft.html

But whether they wrote off an entire country of prospects, or just one scout within their organization who was a bit too high on a few guys, I don't know.

Rangers hang up after they hear Henrique's name mentioned.
