Lundqvist to Caps

Created by: zeppelin
Team: 2020-21 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 18, 2020
Published: Sep. 18, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Lemou slides into the Jesper Fast role on the Panarin line. Kakko takes the next step and replaces Buch on the top line. Alexis gets a quality center on the third line and fellow French man to help adjust. Strome can be traded if Chytil proves ready for 3rd line center.
Caps get an experienced 1b goalie for a veteran team with young goalie, while Holby leaves in FA. Rangers get experienced players to round out the bottom half of the roster, which they clearly lacked in the qualifier.

As a Caps fan I'd LOVE to get Lundqvist. He's my favorite player not on the Caps. Would be a perfect mentor for Samsonov.

Tbh Rangers prob decline all. They're not trading Hank to the Caps, and giving up too much elsewhere across the board.

It has been nationally and internationally reported that they are likey to buyout lundqvist due to being 3rd in the pecking order. To get assest and less dead cap this year and next year makes much more sense. Buchnevich is very inconsistent and has never performed well without Mika as his linemate. Danult fits the rangers need for a defensive center and depth down the middle, while prospects time more time to develop. Deangelo is a luxury as the clear 3rd best RD with lundqvist in the waiting, and his value may never be higher while he played a sheltered role this year. Lastly, the rangers need a top pair LD.

But why would Detroit trade for him? We have Hronek and Seider as our top 4 RD for the foreseeable future. I’d much rather add to that 32OV to get Sergachev like you did.

A 29th ranked power play would love to add Deangelo to qb it. Plus he can take a top four role until those two prove they can handle a top role for an extended period of time.

1. I doubt the Caps would make that move...with the rumors swirling about Hank buyout- I don't think any team will do other than wait for this to happen then sign him on the cheap...they could then probably sign him for way less than 4.25M and not give up assets.

2. Moving ADA seems to be key to most other moves you have here...which is fine- but for just a 2nd is a gross undervalue. His value should start with a 2020 top 15 1st...anything less- add to the package...the guy is an elite driver of offense. Defensively he has holes...but he should show big improvement when he gains an NHL worthy D partner.

3. Danault- I think MON will be interested in Buch- but because Danault is a legit 2C it will take more to get him...throw in a 2nd to get that conversation moving.

4. Smith- due to be paid this year less than his CAP hit...this will carry some value in this flat cap year with so many cash strapped teams...and he is a physical D who still can play D (just not worth 4.25M in cash)....so the Rangers will not kick in to move him- fair deal here is Smith straight up for a 4th

We're getting Torey Krug to boost our anemic PP not ADA Wings pass we don't need him we already have Hronek and Seider in our top 4 plus we could easily draft Jamie Drysdale if we want a similar RD to ADA.

Drysdale and ADA aren’t similar. Drysdale has been labeled as a 2 way guy while ADA is pure offense. Not to mention Yzerman has already traded him before.

The only reason the Habs trade Danault is that he has asked to be at least a 2nd line center - NOT a 3rd line center. He will not sign an extension in that role. And as a Habs fan, I wouldn't trade Danault; he is much too reliable, all-around smart player. A mini Bergeron (I'm not saying he's in the same category, but similar approach to the game). He is way more valuable then regular fans think. I think GMs around the league recognize that he will always be underrated.
