Should read $5.65M.
Carolina - They save $5.65M in cash, they protect Slavin, Skjei and Pesce in Expansion Draft. May not be able to sign Hamiltons as a UFA
Leafs - They get Hamilton to fill RHD

Dougie is worth more and the Leafs need to add a good piece. The concept is right and both teams will consider this type of deal but it's still on the Leafs to pay for Dougie in this trade.

Personally I would remove Dermott and add the 15th pick.

reelkena - are you saying Carolina would prefer the 15th pick, or Toronto would prefer giving up the first over Dermott?

This is horrible. Hamilton gets better trades by himself. Carolina also can make enough room to sign him and svech at a fair price

And the salary thing doesn't appeal to carolina as much as leaf fans want it to

I think that is 100% better for both sides. Dermott is coming off a bad year and will hopefully have his value increase over the next year or two. On the other hand, Carolina would rather have the high pick to do what they want with it.

If they were to resign Hamilton which of Slavin, Skjei, Pesce, Hamiltion will they let Seattle take for nothing? I guess they can protect 4 dmen, but then which of Aho, Staal, Taravainen, Niederreiter, Trochek will they let Seattle take for nothing?

I'm thinking Hamilton will be traded just because he will be expensive to resign - they will keep the other three and go with 7/3/1 for the expansion draft. Perhaps Carolina can get more, I'm not sure but as an equivalent, Justin Faulk on his last year before becoming a UFA was traded for (1) Edmundson (later flipped for a 5th round pick) and (2) a prospect, a good prospect but a prospect nonetheless (Bokk has never played a game in the NHL).

In exchange for Hamilton, Carolina would get (1) their starting goalie in Andersen; (2) a signifiant upgrade on the wing (Johnsson - 0.54 Career PPG vs. Foegele - 0.33 Career PPG); and (3) a young DMan who's played 157 games in the NHL, has a career ATOI of 17 minutes and a career Corsi of 53.2%.

As far as the cash is concerned, I don't know Dundon's finances but I think more cash is always better.

STOP, Andersen is an upgrade but not that much better. Johnsson .48 PPG this year Foegele .44 PPG this year and Johnsson plays on a line with a star. He isn't an upgrade and he's expensive for a 3rd liner. We don't want Dermott if we are so "worried" about the expansion draft. The biggest point is we can re-sign Hamilton and Svech and then trade skjei or for a return and then keep our best defender and then not lose much to Seattle.

Yeah I heard they are going to trade svech for Lucic and then give Lucic a 560M dollar extension

That is a pretty safe bet that carolina will win the cup

Its 100% better but its still pretty bad. Carolina wants to win now so trading their best defender for a goalie, 3rd liner and 15th isn't a good move for them
