leafs 2020-21 the cup team

Created by: leafs_and_devils
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 22, 2020
Published: Sep. 22, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I know the fact that Pietrangelo being on the 3rd pairing seems crazy. But, Dermott and Rielly showed chemistry. This actually gives us 3 solid 2nd pairings, and gives Sandin a reliable partner for him to be able to develop and take chances. You could also swap haydn fleury and dermott if you wanted, but the goal is to have each pairing play 20 minutes a night, and then, come postseason, toss Muzzin and Pietrangelo out there for the last 3 minutes when we're in the lead, or Rielly and Pietrangelo or Sandin in the last 3 minutes when we need a goal.

Trades
1.
TOR
  1. Hayton, Barrett
  2. Kuemper, Darcy
Additional Details:
Kuemper's about as good as Andersen, but this trade allows the yotes to once again have a solid tandem, but they won't have to protect Freddie in the expansion draft because he is a UFA. And they would prefer Freddie's 1M salary to Kuemper's 3.5 this year and 5.5 next year.

The Goalie Swap is about equivalent, with Freddie having the edge. It could be Freddie for Kuemper and a 3rd. Kerfoot and Johnson and a 3rd gets you Hayton. So the 3rd's cancel out and you get this.
ARI
  1. Andersen, Frederik
  2. Johnsson, Andreas
  3. Kerfoot, Alexander
Additional Details:
These guys have already been payed their signing bonuses. This year they carry a 3.5M cap hit with 2.6M salary. Next year and 2022-23, they have 800,000 salary. Great for the Yotes.

The Coyotes are also rumored to be selling on their U-24 players. Hayton is a replacement for Kerfoot but has more skill and potential.
2.
TOR
  1. Fleury, Haydn [RFA Rights]
  2. 2020 3rd round pick (BUF)
Additional Details:
Haydn Fleury + 5th = 2021 First + Holl.
Engvall = 4th.
So, use Engvall to move up to a 3rd. (a 4th and a 5th could easily move up to a 3rd).
CAR
  1. Engvall, Pierre
  2. Holl, Justin
  3. 2021 1st round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
The 2021 Draft isn't great past the top 10. We're looking at winning the cup. We're not going to get top 10. So it's fine to sell the 1st rounder and hope Dubas can work some 2nd - 5th round magic with his scouts to find another Johnson or Robertson.

Kuemper for Andersen , Kerfoot , and Johnnson is already bad enough as the Coyotes have no need for Andersen , Gain cash which isnt the plan , and Kuemper is getting traded for good assets not spare parts BUT THEN YOU THROW IN BARRETT HAYTON LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO absolute Joke also "The Goalie Swap is about equivalent, with Freddie having the edge" No bud Kuemper is better than Andersen

thought'd it be fun to see if someone noticed and evidently they did. You could probably shift around the contracts of simmonds, spezza, and maroon, but they should be getting 2.65 all together.

These trades are not good man. Awful move for the Coyotes. Hayton is a young cost-controlled player, the EXACT kind they need. They're not moving him for spare parts, he's got top-6 potential.

I am not sure what the Carolina trade is. I don't think it fits what either team needs.

Kerfoot and Johnson provide solid depth (kerfoot can play 3C ad johnson 3W or a fringe 2nd liner). The Yotes are selling their U-24s as I said, and Kuemper is still going to have to be paid big money. Andersen has the edge because he only has to be paid 1M which is good for a team like the Yotes. A 3rd line center and a fringe 2nd liner is a solid trade for a player who is going to develop into a 2C. By the time Tavares is 34, he'll become the 3C and Hayton the 2C behind AM34. The trade makes a lot more sense for both teams than it seems at first look.

See the reply to the other comment about the Yotes trade. As for the Canes, the canes have Bean coming out of the minors. They have 6 defenseman. Maybe take out holl and the 3rd, so the trade is Fleury for Engvall and the 1st. Pretty good value for someone who's going to be playing on the canes' 3rd pairing but has a much higher potential.

I mean, you can argue why you think your trade is good, but it isn't. The Coyotes want to remove cap space. You have them adding over 10 million between Andersen, Kefoot and Johnsson. Not to mention they don't have anywhere for Kerfoot or Johnsson to play. They have their top 3 centre's locked down (Hayton isn't one of them) and whatever Johnsson can provide them, VInnie Hinostra produces for less and might even be better. Your premise of Johnsson/Kerfoot = Hayton is nuts. A 3rd has so little value. So yes, it's a bad trade, no matter what rational you have. Whatever rumour you heard about the Coyotes selling off U24 players is likely wrong, considering those are the cheapest players on your roster.

General rule of thumb on here, when everyone tells you that you're wrong. You're probably wrong.

I think you got that backwards. Coyotes have said they are willing to trade anyone over 25. Check hockey writers article sept 17. Dreger said they are listing to any trade of players over 25.

Canes decline because it makes the canes a worse team. The coyotes trade is hilarious. Some nerve to say Anderson has more value than Kuemper

Hayton was drafted 5 overall 2 years ago. He’s 20 years old. ZERO chance he gets treaded for kerfoot and Johnson.

The Arizona trade is awful. Even adopting for the sake of argument your assumption that Kuemper and Andersen are equivalent in on-ice ability, why would Arizona trade two years of a #1 goalie for one year of an older #1 goalie and a "savings" of $2.5 million in cash? That's idiotic.

I can't imagine where you got the idea that the Coyotes would be trading away their young players, who are Arizona's only hope of being relevant in the next couple of seasons. Stepan, Hjalmarsson, Demers, Goligoski, Raanta, even Kessel yes, but not their anticipated core going forward.

I don't think Arizona will trade any of Schmaltz, Keller, Dvorak, Garland, Hayton, Chychrun, Soderstrom or Kuemper, but if they do, I would expect each to get the equivalent of a Kapanen return, i.e., a 2020 first-round draft pick.

This isnt NHL 20 my dude Johnsson and Kerfoot does not get you the Coyotes Top Center Prospect and Hayton max potential is a great Top 6 Two way Center , Kuemper is a top 5 goalie in the league that has placed in Vezina Voting and Voted as the Coyotes ALLSTAR , Coyotes have no need for Andersen as they have Raanta and Hill
