MMore cap space

Created by: PhillyDip123
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 26, 2020
Published: Sep. 26, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
A solid defence > one superstar forward. I think Ottawa's situation with the coming diminished gate revenue means an exciting player like MM can draw people where they might not come otherwise. Almost half of his contract has been paid and he has 5 years left in his contract- Melynk might be interested. I also think the older guys coming in could have a positive effect on the younger guys. (I'm also super high on Brannstrom)

Additional Details:
Close enough to Toronto that you get a whole bunch of Leafs fans visiting and driving gate revenue. Gives the Leafs space to sign defenders and gives the Sens a superstar forward to draw people and income. (It'd also be nice to be able to see Marner play for less than 200 for a good seat). Marner's contract is almost half paid off and still has 5 years of term left.

Take out brannstrom and ottawas first round pick and it seems fair, otherwise sens decline

Yeah Sens have no interest in Marner, we could literally draft a guy who projects to be Marner at #5, and keep all our other picks and top D prospect

Sens could spend that Marner money or a UFA and keep all their picks. Don't think Marner's trade value is nearly that much.

I don’t think Ottawa owner going to jump on the chance to pay 15 million next year for Marner and it makes no sense to give up so much assets for him in the first place. Mitch is not going anywhere for a while with that contract.

Just stupid. It's getting worse by the day. Seems like all the reasonable fans are gone and just nuts remain.
