Description

So apparently Hudon has requested to have a chance at an NHL roster spot, whether that’s with the habs or another team. The habs will qualify him, but they’ll probably try to trade him to somewhere that he could play in the NHL. If it happens, I’d expect the trade to be similar to the Fabbri trade, where Hudon is moved to a rebuilding team for a depth C that is maybe a safer player but doesn’t have as much pontential upside. I think Hudon, like Fabbri could really benefit from a move like that, and he could end up being a steal of a pick up for whatever team acquires him. Unfortunately, Hudon’s time in Montreal is up, and I wish him well in the future.

Below I’ve put a bunch of trades that might potentially work around Hudon. Although I’m not extremely familiar with the rosters of these teams, so they might not want Hudon.

Which one? And why? This is mostly to start a discussion, and because I think Hudon would fit in well in Detroit.

No Detroit still likes Svech, he definitely has more upside than Hudon atp. He just needs to stay healthy

That’s fair. I was trying to look for a guy like JDLR that is a depth guy, but almost all of them are just UFAs around the league.

Don’t think either trade is very interesting for the Wings. Glendening is a pretty good 4C and he should get us a 3rd or 4th at the TDL. If not, he’s an alternate captain so we’ll just keep him for leadership. The odds of Svechnikov earning a spot in the NHL aren’t great but he still has more upside than Hudon.

John Hayden is a big 4th liner, can player center or RW. Product of USNTDP and Yale. Not much offense. Well-liked by teammates, humorous guy. Willing to drop the mitts. Fans tired of him a bit because he would start many nights when they'd have a prospect scratched.

To me it makes no sense for a team to give up a pick for Hudon. You’d think they’d much rather make a player swap, so that they don’t use their picks to make a gamble.

Montreal would probably be fine with a pick though, since they can add some depth with UFAs, and you can never have too many picks.

We know he won't be taken in an expansion draft so at least he's an asset you dont have to worry about losing! lol

Good times in 2017 when every Habs fan was on pins and needles thinking Vegas was taking Hudon

Hmm, ok. Do you think the Devils would rather have him, or Hudon? Hudon is pretty much the opposite of Hayden. He’s not that big, he plays either wing, and isn’t good defensively. Not that he makes a bunch of mistakes, but he’s not going to be a 2-way forward in the way others are. Hudon is great offensively, and he’s played on the powerplay pretty much every game out of the handful he played in the NHL this year. He just doesn’t fit our 4th line, and I think he could really benefit from playing with more skilled players in a more offensive role.

That’s fair. And I completely forgot about his physical play. Although I guess I’ve only seen him play twice in the last 7 months. It’s too bad it didn’t work out in Montreal. I really hope that someone trades for him so that he’s able to play in the NHL this year.
