King of DC

Created by: Boush
Team: 2020-21 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 30, 2020
Published: Oct. 2, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This team is wild, so here's the thought process. I know damn well it will never happen.

-Caps want to sign Dillon, so they need to clear cap space.
-Caps need a veteran backup for Samsonov, or a 1A/1B, and DC has already been touted as an ideal spot for him by multiple media sources.
-Nylander is seemingly always on the trade rumors, and I think he and Kuzy both would benefit from a change of scenery.
-Toronto needs a Top 4/Top 6 defenseman on a reasonable contract with Barrie and Ceci leaving. This leaves them with ~ 4mil in cap space to add to their bottom 6 forwards.
-Caps need a 2C replacement, and Strome is on the TSN Trade Bait list, allegedly due to the Lundqvist situation. A trade-and-sign avoids the RFA compensation issue.
-AGM Mahoney is interested in seeing McMichael next season, and I don't like Eller nearly as much as the rest of you people.
-Cap situation the next year is screwed, so banking on Oshie going to Seattle and moving Panik/Hagelin at that time.

Well he's defensively fantastic and cheaper. Im not a fan of Strome or paying him Panarin's money.

Gosh you don't get anything right it seems

The only center we should 100% go for is Cirelli, we need a center who can take over when Zibanejad starts to decline

Eller can't do that and I don't see Chytil as being much more than a future 2C

I've always thought of Kuznetsov as a wing. Agree Kempny to the Leafs isn't the right fit. Kempny is cheap on top pair in WSH, but behind Rielly and Muzzin in Tor, he'd be normal-priced on 3rd pair. Jensen, on top pair with Rielly would be cheap. But the Leafs' Nylander rumors tend to be about breaking up his cap hit to cover several spots and/or add some expansion-proof youth, right? What would a Nylander to WSH trade look like to you?

I think he's right. Ottawa is still paying Anisimov $4.5M. Does WSH still consider the trade, to get younger? Maybe if Strome considers a 4M cap hit?

So? Strome for Eller is a lateral move. Why are you acting like I'm not interested in Cirelli? I'm just talking about the premise of this specific trade. You act like Tampa is gonna let him go smh.

For the right price (and I'm willing to overpay to get him) yes they would, 100%.

No need for Eller with Chytil around. And if you want a defensive bottom six center, there are better options than Eller... Girgensons, Nosek and Larsson come to mind

Eller is better than those 3. Also prevents us from paying Strome. If we can get Cirelli I would obviously throw this trade away and get something done for him but I'm fairly pessimistic about our chances.

Leafs need centres more than anything in the organization. Just not a high end centre like Kuznetsov.

Nylander only gets moved for a top 4 d-man around the same age

So, like, Eller and SIegenthaler? Granted, you probably mean an offensive right shot defenseman, rather than just a big lug who checks like Orpik and gets the puck going up the ice. And you probably want one who has more experience, rather than just one who's played a little bit. So the Caps add a 1st to that offer. Eller, Siegenthaler, 1st? Or Eller, Jensen, 1st? I don't even know. Highest offer in players/prospects would probably be Eller, Jensen, Alexeyev. Again with the left shots, but the Caps don't have a right shot D under Nylander's age. Just Carlson and Jensen. Of course, if they went in for a big rebuild/retool, Carlson for Nylander could help the Leafs win right away. That'd be my move, as the Leafs, if I could crunch for the Caps to toss in a couple B prospects so I'd have something to show in seven years.

There really isn't a conceivable Nylander to WSH trade that makes sense.
The only way the Leafs deal Nylander is for a can't miss top-4 RD of similar(ish) age with term/control.
WSH doesn't have that to give, so a deal around Nylander doesn't work.

Caps don't have the types of players to get a Nylander deal done. Even Carlson wouldn't work. The teams just don't match up well for a trade

I hear you, but I just posted an offer built around the Caps' best defensive center, their best defensive defenseman, and their best defensive prospect on the Leafs side. I'm hoping some Toronto fans who follow junior hockey and know who Alexeyev is will comment on how good he's gonna be.

I work in junior hockey so I know about him. But Leafs need guys who can help them win now. And the package you've offered doesn't do that well. There's other guys that Nylander could be involved in to get a better player. Parayko, Ekbkad, maybe a longer shot at Ellis. There's just better guys that fit Toronto's needs that Washington can't match

Yeah Rangers decline but good offer just not the deal they would be looking for.
