Description
Its a transition year where the goal is to let young guys prove what they can do, eat a year of the bad contracts, and stock the cupboard with assets. I assume no draft day trades because nobody knows what draft day looks like.

I make two big assumptions. One is that Dumba is moved before the season for what that will be a 1st and a prospect similar to the Zucker trade. With the (imminent) signing of Soucy, moving Dumba is a given. I use the Ducks here as there could be a few permutations of the deal proposed by Eric Stephensthat could get it done, I think Stephens is right that Minnesota would want Manson and I think they’d have to find another partner for Manson to recoup more assets (think TOR). Another interesting deal could center around Sam Steel and 27 OA for Dumba. It’s a really interesting move if ANA is interested, because the Wild should be. Another option would be to VGK as part of a deal for Fleury and one of Glass/Krebs. Second is that another natural center is brought in. If a high profile prospect center is brought in as Part of a Dumba deal, good on BG. More likely is that Donato is the chip to get a young guy that hasn’t yet hit the bigs or needs a change of scenery. I add the FLA trade suggested by Friedman, which I propose since it looks like Dubnyk and Donato are being approached as separate deals by SJS but obviously that could change.

I can also see Hunt moving for a pick and possibly Hartman or Greenway for something be for the year starts. When it’s all said and done, it’s a team.

Trades
1.
MIN
  1. 2020 5th round pick (SJS)
Additional Details:
At full salary, I can’t imagine the cost being high. A 5th seems reasonable given the return for Allen since the sharks don’t have a 3rd or 4th and the Wild don’t have to buy Dubnyk out.
SJS
  1. Dubnyk, Devan
Additional Details:
According to LeBrun, Dubnyk is the primary goalie target for SJS. Sure, he’s cheap. But this trade needs to be the first as it opens the most cap space and he will likely be the most difficult to move with his NTC.
2.
MIN
  1. Fleury, Marc-André
  2. 2020 1st round pick (VGK)
Additional Details:
1st rounder is based on the Staal and Marleau cap dump. If the deal doesn't happen before the draft, the possibility of a larger deal with Dumba and Glass/Krebs. Fleury to Minnesota makes sense for both sides as MAF would be the #1 and BG has a relationship with him. But the Lehner signing is done so it looks like they need to clear cap if they want to make noise and this deal clears the entire cap hit.
VGK
  1. Stalock, Alex
Additional Details:
Stalock is proven as a backup and filled in well as a starter when called upon. He’s nothing special but he gets the job done at league minimum.
3.
MIN
  1. Gudbranson, Erik
  2. 2020 1st round pick (ANA)
  3. 2020 2nd round pick (ANA)
Additional Details:
Trade proposed by Stephens from the Athletic. I think there is work to be done on the value here, if Gubranson is the salary going other way the 36 OA should become 27 OA and possibly add a prospect (Lundestrom?). Other options with the Ducks could include a three way deal that replaces Gudbranson with Manson and ships Manson to the third team for assets or one that centers the deal on Steel and 27 OA for Dumba.
ANA
  1. Dumba, Matt
  2. 2020 1st round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
Dumba provides a high offensive upside as a legit top 4 guy, he does need to rediscover his physical game though.
4.
MIN
  1. Borgström, Henrik [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Trade was suggested as a possible fit by Friedman given Fenton’s arrival in FLA. Struggling big center who had big production in college. Still young and he fills a void up the middle for the Wild, definitely a sink or swim move.
FLA
  1. Donato, Ryan
Additional Details:
Donato isn’t in the plans for the Wild, which I find unfortunate. He can score but hasn’t been given the opportunity and I still think his value is a bit of a mystery.

Moving out Flower at full cap hinges on them signing Pietrangelo IMO. Otherwise they can and should eat 2m of his salary.
That would make it a 2021 1st.

I like all these deals. Good job! I especially like the Borgstrom deal, he could flourish w a change of scenery

Borgstrom on the second line is risky. He spent the entire season in the AHL and now he would be the 2C...

These all look pretty fair, but I don’t know if Fleury would waive his NTC. Although that does seem like A LOT to give up to move up 3 spots with Anaheim.

I’m taking the fact that he’s a natural center as proof he belongs in the middle six and we need to put him in a position to put up points. And if you haven’t been following the Wild offseason, it’s one huge risk.

I’m pretty sure BG won a cup with Flower, so I’m banking on that relationship and the fact he would be the default #1 until his contract ran out as the reasons he would waive.

Regarding the move up deal, I think there are some value issues but I wanted to keep trades to things I’ve seen from reputable sources. I tried to offer some other options for it like Steel/27 OA for Dumba or including Manson in a three way deal.

Honestly hope Dubnyk says no to the trade. Just not worth giving up anything for him with all the options we have

The Sharks aren't a team than need to save money in salary though. Doug has stated that Plattner (the owner) is giving him the green light to spend to the cap. So maybe that matters to a team like Arizona, but it's a non-factor to us really. We care way more about his cap hit.
