    i probably wouldnt give a first at all for mcdonagh. Contracts just way too big

    Pretty bad on the back end if he doesn't retain ability, but his value is defense which tends to age better than offense.

    I big Mc Donough fan .. having played hockey.. he is guy you love on a team.. leaderahip grit D first .. mentor young guys .. go against opponents 1st line.. people don't realize that .. Hedmen is great BUT he is set up to be great by McDonough doing the dirty work and PK ..

    God I want to keep Killorm .. goal scorer PP grit PK and #1 PP .. also great value contrcat at 3 year 14M left..

    I said this last year about JT Miller who went and scored 90 pts!!!!! .. ALL of function of bad Yanni Gourde contrcat .. JBB correct the mistake!!!!!

    I love McDonagh, and he never missed a beat after returning from injury Game 5 against Boston, but he's the biggest obstacle in the way of the Lightning achieving cap space stability. Signing Sergachev through until Hedman's contract is up would also set us up nicely for the next 5 years.

    As you mention mentoring young guys, there were numerous players who were with the Lightning from 2014-20 that brought experience to the locker room. Now that McDonagh has left and won a cup, I'm sure he would be valued back with the young Rangers if they could make him fit.

    NO ... well sort of .. think the Gourde contrcat was a function of front office friction between JBB Yzerman and owner .. it is BY FAR .. worse contract of last 5 years .. TJ contract is awful but that is because his game has fallen off cliff .. Gourde never climbed the cliff!!! .. VERY odd signing

    Too much term on Johnson's contract. 7 years for a nonfranchise forward is bad.
