Hamilton If Petro Falls Through

Created by: Robl88
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 4, 2020
Published: Oct. 4, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Dermott signs his QO, he’s not arbitration eligible, there’s incentive with escrow to take a bigger deal later and it allows him to stay on the team.

It’s a pretty big haul for Hamilton, I don’t imagine he’ll come cheap. This deal could come with an agreed upon extension similar to the Muzzin trade, for both Andersen and Hamilton.

Basically the entire team is intact.

With an extension, Hamilton is extremely valuable and this doesn't do anything to convince the Hurricanes of trading him

If there was an extension in place the return to Carolina would start with Nylander and you would likely have to add. Hamilton is a Norris Level defensemen, and he received votes even while only playing half the season. Either way the cane’s priority is to sign him and id be surprised if they do not get it done

Don't mind that move at all and seems like fair value, but an extension being in place that is affordable for Toronto is probably a price that would make Carolina just want to keep him.

Hamilton is a top 5 D in the league - its going to take quality over quantity

Was just going to say, unless he says "I will only sign with leads" canes would just sign him
Breadmanhawks liked this.

The extension is made with us but it’s nothing concrete. Similar to Muzzin, it’s basically just an agreement to do a deal at a later date.

That is quality, it’s a first, a blue chip prospect and a starting goaltender. How much more could you possibly want?

The deal could also include an extension with Andersen.

I wouldn’t call liljeren a blue chip prospect. They would probably ask for sandin and a 1st or 2nd rd pick, similar to the mark stone trade.

Was this something that was in the muzzin trade, wasn't the contract extension independent of the trade itself? IIRC, part of the skepticism behind making it was that he might walk in FA.

This package is far superior to the Brannstron + a 2nd Stone got. I don’t understand this comment. Liljegren is still a top prospect. His name getting thrown around a lot doesn’t change that.

I think the sens should have gotten more for stone. Arguably the best winger in the NHL.

Liljeren will be a #4 at best IMO. They’ll ask for sandin

I mean I guess, but the Hurricanes are probably not going to trade him unless there's some serious value coming back which would mean an extension would have to be in place. They are a contender and losing him for a playoff run wouldn't be worth that return.

Yah that’s what I mean, it wasn’t anything contractually binding and thus LA couldn’t use it as leverage to demand more. I think anyway.

Andersen left Carolina with bad blood once I doubt he would resign

I mean, how much would you want for your likely Norris Trophy winner if they hadn't gotten injured half way through the season?

A first a player and a prospect lol. It would come down to what those individual pieces are of course. If they demand it be Sandin then I’d hope we could put real extensions in place.

If Matthews was 27 with one year left coming off bad injury (and we realistically couldn’t afford him anyway) it wouldn’t sound so ridiculous would it? That package is still worse than the one I offered though. You guys act like an extended Andersen is worthless. If we change Liljegren to Sandin are you happier?

Andersen isn't that valuable. Rather go after a goalie in free agency. Also, I'm not a hurricanes fan so I don't care. Just think that Hamilton is being underrated here

You have to give to get. Why do leaf fans think they can just offer cast offs and depth players for other teams stars? You’re not close without a Hamilton extension.

Liljegren isn't a blue chip prospect. A pick in the 20s isn’t high value. Andersen’s value mainly resides in the fact that he’s only owed $1M in real money.

Hamilton extended is closer in value to Matthews than these spare parts.... I'm not saying trade Hamilton for Matthews, but it shows you how BAD this trade is

It’s really not that bad. Trouba was traded for a far worse package than this coming off a 50 point season. And he was moved because they couldn’t afford him. Let’s stick to comparing Hamilton to players that make sense.

This is a pile of flaming Garbage. Trouba is a pile of flaming garbage. Get Trouba. That works. Hamilton was a Norris calibre D man this year. This pile of junk does not get him. That would likely start with Nylander, 15th OA, Kerfoot and Lilly. Then you're still adding. This doesn't even start the convo for an extended Norris D man
