Isles 2020-21 - Last Attempt before Draft

Created by: slapshot723
Team: 2020-21 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 5, 2020
Published: Oct. 5, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
My last attempt at a roster before the draft, where I will most likely be very wrong with all trades.

BOS-NYI
Bruins get a Krug replacement and a league-minimum NHL forward. Isles get cap space and forward depth.

OTT-NYI
Major cap shakeup. OTT gets a veteran forward, veteran defenseman, young defensive RHD (good fit with Chabot), recent 2nd round prospect, and a 2022 2nd round pick. Isles get a defenseman Lou likes and cap space.

CGY-NYI
Flames get an elite bottom-6 center. Isles get two young, struggling NHL players, and get two players for the cap hit of one.

ARI-NYI
Change of scenery trade. Coyotes get a good but oft-injured bottom-6 RW (Grabner replacement) and young NHL goal-scoring prospect. Isles get young RW looking for a bounceback season and gain some cap space.

UFAs
Andy Greene (1 year, $1M) - Greene returns on a cheap deal for another shot at a Cup.

Derick Brassard (2 years, $1.6M cap hit) - interesting reading Brassard and the team were working on an extension. It's good to have versatile forwards on the roster and he helped on a PP that wasn't very good. Also had some really nice playoff moments even though he was scratched occasionally.

RFAs
Mat Barzal (2 years, $6.75M cap hit) - bridge deal identical to Laine.

Ryan Pulock (8 years, $6M cap hit) - max term at good value for a top-pairing but not a true 1D.

Devon Toews (5 years, $3.875M cap hit) - lost a little term and dollars from his poor playoffs, but still a clear top-4 LHD who can run the PP.

Vinnie Hinostroza (2 years, $2.25M cap hit) - seems fair for a struggling forward that can put up nice numbers on the right team.

Oliver Kylington (3 years, $1.2M cap hit) - Isles don't have a ton of LHD depth organizationally. He seems like the type that can put it together with the right coaching. In this scenario I'd hope with Trotz he'd split time with Greene and can take over bottom-pairing duties in 2021-22.

Mark Jankowski (QO - I think?) - signing Jankowski to his QO as an extra forward to see if he can turn it around.

Flames pass, not that the value is terrible, but we don't need a 3m+ 4/5 center, because we have already said we are playing Bennett at C this year and he won't be on the 4th line. Then, we also have Derek Ryan still

I don't think breaking up TB4LE and bringing in Hinostroza gets us any closer to the cup. I could live with the Boston trade but that's about it.

For the love of god. Why did every islanders fans wake up one day and think, “omg, the bruins are gonna lose Krug! Of course they’ll take on this guy, it’s because they lost Krug!”

No. The bruins aren’t taking nick freaking Leddy.

Hey, I'm just happy they've moved on from giving up half our prospect pool and 3 years of 1st round picks trying to get Laine while trading away half the team trying to get him under the cap. At least for an hour or two,
