Reshaping the roster

Description
Obviously, some of these moves are pretty risky and maybe the other teams don't want the players being offered. It might be a mistake to get rid of Graves right now and I'm not sure if Gustafsson is the right fit. But it does make the Avs a lot stronger on the wings and at 3C and adding Cernak probably makes the D overall a bit better. Next year, there is space for some of the younger players to come in if they're ready and there is just enough space to sign Makar, Landy and Gru (if that's who they go with). They do have to convince EJ to waive his NTC and hope Seattle doesn't take him (I don't think they will but...). The enticement could come in the form of leaving someone like Compher available.

Yeah, I wasn't sure what the Sens are looking for. I thought about Z but the Avs really need a stronger 3C. Got any of those lying around you're willing to part with?

Value-wise, the last three trades are all favouring the other teams. Graves is worth more than a 2nd. Jost is too. Also, coughing up a 1st round pick to help a team in a cap crunch doesn't make sense to me.

I don't know if Graves is worth more than a 2nd considering his playoff performance. Same for Jost considering his development path so far. It's likely I'm underselling them.

I went back and forth on the 1st but the Avs don't have a lot of picks to give - probably could have added the BJ's 2nd, I suppose. The reason I offered that is so I could get Cernak thrown in at a lower cost (money-wise) than an OS might run. And a low 1st is essentially the same as a 2nd, for all intents and purposes, but it's prettier.

That's not bad for Donskoi

I only went for Gustafsson over Graves because of the cost but it does look like I could give Graves $1.75MM and be fine, doesn't it? That's probably the better move.

Decent size and scoring stats. Does he play PK? Decent defensively?

Than keep Gusf and don't go for Cernak... as he would ask 4-4,5M long term
Graves 2,5-3M/y

was pretty good on the pk (4 shg was a good surprise this year), just a very solid do everything player. Didnt do enough imo to be a true #2c but could definitely a strong middle 6c especially on the avs

I'm not sure Graves is a long-term guy - he was not good in the playoffs.

Okay, you've got me interested. I'm not sure I'd give both Z and a 1st for just him, though. Could be a decent straight-across hockey trade.

ya i was thinking like tierney+the sens second rounder (33) or islanders first (28). So you would really only be moving back like 10 spots. If not i could probably be down with a 1 for 1

I don't think you need to pay that much for Killorn. He's a solid player but it's mostly a cap dump for Tampa. They are stuck with the cap and you accommodate them by taking a contract, So it's up to them to pay, not you! You take Killorn, you can give an asset like AJ Greer for example. You take $4.5M in cap hit for another 3 years so you don't give a 1st round pick.

Cernak = Zadorov except right-handed. You are not improving.

COL like Graves a lot. He's under team control (and cheap) for another 2 years. You can just qualify him for a year and wait for arbitration. Or re-sign him for a 2 years bridge around $2M per. If traded, I would be surprised, but it will be in a package deal for an impact player (Laine maybe?)

Cernak is more consistent than Z but maybe that is an overpay for that deal.

Graves had a very rough playoffs - I wouldn't be eager to sign him to a long-term deal unless he shows a lot of improvement this season. I doubt Winny would consider Graves a major piece of a deal for Laine. You'd have to add a lot to a deal for him before Chevy even listens.
